why is it such a big deal for a girl in pak to cut her locks? Ive noticed that a gal in pak with short hair is considered “modaran” and a girl in a guth called “naik bachi”
a few of my cousins have taken the plunge and snipped their hair off, but have been called various names which arent too colourful, but nontheless, please explain
Well I was born and raised in Canada. I remember my mother having shortish hair, above her chin, layered shag. But that was the late 70's. My parents were pretty cool about me having short hair. I went from looong straight hair to a drastic pixie cut. It was a bit shocking for them and for people at school. But every time I went to a salon with grown out hair, the stylists would say I should cut it really short. My family got used to it but my dad would always tell me to grow it out again. He referred to it as "larka kay baal".
I think femininity is often associated with long, flowing hair. Isn't that part of the reason why we Muslim women are supposed to cover our hair? I think there is alot of stress in our culture for a girl to be 'conventionally pretty'. And when someone breaks out of those boundaries they are being too modern. It's like a simple 'saadi' girl will have long hair and be submissive. But a girl who wants to claim her independence will go against the grain by cutting hair.
^ thats very interesting saima :) i used to have real short hair when i was younger, my mum would shave my hair off in order for it to go thick and luscious.. it happened, i got afro hair hehe
i think short hair these days is considered "cute".. i wish i could take that next big step, but im too scared
I go through phases, sometimes its short, when I get bored with that its long. These days its in the middle somewhere. I think I'll get bored with it really soon.
I have thick brown hair up to my hips (it's in layers), I am seedhi saadhi larki I guess, the problem is my mom won't allow me to cut my hair, she likes it long.
the problem with today's paki and/or muslim gals' is they put fashion above their sacred religion islam! we see many examples in pak and abroad with paki and/or muslim gals' imitating a man's hair cut by getting barb cuts' and so on... it's a disgrace.......
Well mine is naturally straight, but it grows at a extremely fast pace so I’m always trimming it because it’s too much too handle. Actually sadzzz when I was younger my mom always cut my hair up to my shoulders wouldn’t allow me to grow it out and now when it’s long she won’t let me cut it.

LUC, getting ur hair cut short is not immitating a man..
in the early days, men had long hair, now would u say that they were immitating women? i think not...
its called preference

it's called modern day jahaliyat, anyways hair cutting in islam is a major issue, with many fuqahaa still agreeing and disagreeing with wat the exact length of a muslim lady's hair should or shouldn't be.....

Quite amusing.
I've always had super short hair (ranging from below the ears to just below the chin). Gosh, I'm such a disgrace to society. :D
Long hair has never suited me. At the moment, it's the longest it has ever been ... and I see myself going short again soon.
My mom was a fan of bangs and shoulder cut…if she ever shaved my head off I would refuse to go in public, sadzzz I am impressed how did you handle it, it takes a lot to go out there with a shiny tind.
You made my day
I hope my laughing doesn’t disturb you.
