So this abcd girl tells me how she loves sex & the city and how everything in the show closesly relates to what a girl goes thru and blah blah blah
Now I have never watched this apparently popular show myself but looking at some promos/trailers shown during ad breaks it seems all about some chicks in NY dating, sleeping around and all their men problems.
Should this show really ring some bells for desi girls? what am I missing here?..jeez..or is it one of those abcd things that us naive and simple people from the homeland will never understand?
lussi, it's probably just that this girl wishes to see herself as a Carrie, or whatever other characters are on the show. She's probably living vicariously through them.
you misunderstood me. Liking a movie is different from saying that the movie reflects their life. So a desi guy can say they like rambo movie but saying that they live like rambo yielding guns etc is absurd. That’s what surprised me about Sex&City.
It may be pure entertainment (I've only seen one or two episodes of either and that too not in entirety), however, when girls start to suggest that they can identify with the thoughts and feelings expressed, you have to question what they are finding common.

Carrie asks questions about relationships. She writes articles based on her failed experiences and the failed experiences of those around her. She asks questions that a lot of girls usually ask (if only to themselves) about herself, men, relationships, life, etc. I guess you need to watch it to fully understand.
Personally, I identify more with the character Bridget Jones or the characters from Jane Austen novels.
When I firstsaw commercials and stuff it just seemed to me a very tasteless and vulgar show..just women sleeping around trying to get a man.. and lolz it still is that, alot of the values, pre/extra marital sex, their ideas on relationships and stuff just is NOT a part of my life, never has or will be..
But some things, like how these women are in control of their lives, make their own money, have htier own real estate etc, not to mention the intense friendship between the four women are traits to be admired.

yeah sara i guess thats what they are trying to show. these women sleep around BUT their lives do not revolve around these men. its attacking lots of taboos at once....by being single in their 40's, not settling down, being selfish, not sticking with one man, holding friendship closer than boyfriends, older women dating younger men etc etc.
sexual adventurism need not impress Muslim men and women who relate to these ayats cited here
& have self-respect in the heart of their hearts... somewhere.
