some of these are really funny! kkf i have heard of those as well. i remember last year there was a wedding or some kind of event where 3 of my friends didn’t show up because there was a lunar eclipse! i was like what! but i have heard this from almost anyone and everyone. i really don’t believe in these kinds of things but then again, who really wants to push any bad luck if their expecting anyways right? its like once its been brought to your attention you start to feel paranoid.
I’ve heard all of these and then some. They’re all nothing but a bunch of old wives tales and superstitions that have no basis in reality lol.
My mother in law told me that cleft palates/birth defects are caused because the mother used a knife/scissors during a lunar eclipse :smack:
As far as the body temp/baby catching a cold thing..again, no scientific proof in this whatsoever.
"It is often believed that if a breastfeeding mother drinks or bathes in cold water, her baby can catch a cold through her milk. But there is no scientific evidence to support this.
The reasoning behind this myth goes back to our traditional beliefs about confinement. After childbirth, it is believed that the new mum’s body goes into a cold state due to the loss of blood and other fluids. So hot baths and heat inducing foods are recommended during confinement, in addition to rest. This is believed to help the mum recover quickly and prevent her or her baby from getting ill or catching a cold.
The idea of taking a hot bath can be quite appealing in the winter, but not so if you’ve had a baby in the summer. If you feel like a refreshing cool shower, you may do so knowing that your milk will remain at body temperature.
Your baby is more likely to get a cold if:
She is wet for a long period of time. Make sure to dry your baby well after you bathe or wash her and to change her nappy regularly. Also, be sure to change her clothes if they get wet at the chest after a feed or a vomit.
She isn’t dressed appropriately. If the weather is cold, dress her in warm clothing. Exposure to the cold can increase the risk of catching a cold. Also, make sure that at night she stays well covered especially if she has started rolling over in her sleep.
The air conditioning or cooler are set at the wrong temperature. Most paediatricians agree that the ideal temperature for your baby is about 25 to 26 degrees C.
Your baby is exposed to second-hand smoke. If you have smokers in the family, ask them to smoke outdoors. Or create a designated smoking area in the house and keep your baby away from that area. Keep her protected from smoke as this can cause frequent and long cold spells in a baby, among other problems.
Your baby comes in contact with someone who has a cold or another infection. You and your baby should stay away from people who are ill. This is because your baby’s immune system is weak, and yours has been weakened during pregnancy and labour. If you have a cold, be careful not to sneeze or cough directly on to your baby. Wash your hands with soap before you touch her or feed her. Continue to breastfeed her as your breastmilk will build her immunity and protect her from the cold.
So don’t feel guilty if you feel like a good cold bath. If you follow the above precautions, you will have reduced your baby’s risk of catching a cold as much as you possibly can."******
^Yes, that’s what I was thinking! I mean how does one even bring oneself to speculate, let alone discuss with other people, other people’s sex lives/conception details?
“…your giving me a grandaughter when I told you the 13, 14, 15 only and that’s it, why can’t you listen to me??? I would’ve had a grandson if you listened to me!!!”
Its to make people believe they are in control and then blame someone else when the outcome isn’t to their liking.
Regardless if the dil listens or not, she will get blamed if the outcome isn’t a boy.
Things I have heard that haven’t been mentioned are if during pregnancy, the mom to be has acidity issues which I did, the baby is gonna have a massive amount of hair!! DEBUNKED!!! I’m still waiting for their hair to come in lol!!
Looking at gora Chitta baby with blue green eyes pics will ensure a gora Chitta baby. Debunked or your mother to be is ahem ahem cough cough!!!
Make a mannat to name your child Mohammad or Ahmad and place it in the Quran to ensure a baby boy!!!
eclipse thing got me out of cooking tp for THAT day so I May not believe in it but hey.. Ill respect your belief in it.
Yes I’ve heard the ones where if you want a gora baby with green eyes stare at a picture of a baby with gora skin and green eyes everyday. Or in reverse if you want to avoid certain traits that might be inherited don’t look at so and so in your family for 9 months so the baby doesn’t come out with a big nose etc ..
This one, along with the one about drinking loads of milk to have a light complexioned child, is just so funny to me. I have an experiment to test this theory.
You see, I’m quite light and, during the winter months, take on the most ghastly pale, gothic complexion. (You may recall my “to tan or not to tan” conundrum in Fashion & Beauty prior to my wedding.) Drinking loads of milk supposedly helps ensure a light skinned baby. So by that logic, in future when I have kids, if I have a couple of tablespoons of Nutella per day, my child should have the perfect tan complexion, right?
Omg guys I had to come back on here for a third time today because my mom just said this to me in the car on suspicion of my baby news as I ordered a coke- ‘coke or coffee kam piyo, bacha kala nikliga.’ My brother and I had a good laugh, she was semi serious.
Maybe the pregnant woman should walk around with google glass and have a picture of her favorite hero projecting on it 24/7. That way she can avoid looking at whoever she doesn’t want the kid to look like, and get the baby to look like who she does want
How would you get a baby that way silly?
I recently heard that too. That one should try soon after miscarrying because the hormones or something help in conceiving…err… And that’s not an old wives’ tale either, that’s like on those baby forums.
