same here in Pakistan. people use karobaar for business and dhanda is now attributed to prostitution.

Bai is used for sister or lady in marathi.....like when some one is addressing his siter...some times parents or even strangers use this word while addressing or referring to a particular lady...

but in hindi movies it was an important suffix for Tawaifs

yes, Bai Ji means sister...

...Bai means the "aunty" of tawa'ifs...tawaifoN kii handlers ko kahte haiN na k tawaif ko.

vaise, lafz e "AUNTY" kaa bhii ek connotation hai jaise oopar likhaa maiN ne.

Maasi is Khala in Sindh. I think Mosi is also used for Khala in some areas of India. But now Massi is used for housemaids and khalas instruct their bhanjas not to call her Maasi

i dont see any problem in referring to someone as yaar.

but i would not say 'he or she is my yaar'......i would rather use dost, friend.

the word is derogatory if a girl says 'that boy is my yaar' or if a boy says 'that girl is my yaar'. even though they mean it in terms of friends but people assume boyfriend/girlfriend thing.

jaise pakistani akhbaarat main khabar kuch is tarah likhte hain 'falan aurt apne yaar/aashna ke saath bhaag gayi'
