**A mother allegedly told her son that she would take the blame if he took his “unruly” sister into the cellar and killed her.
Usman Khalid did not carry out Rubina Shaheen’s alleged command but, a jury was told, he threatened to kill Mehwish Kiran during a six-hour period in which he is accused of hitting her with a spoon and a rolling pin, and wielding a kitchen knife.
Miss Kiran had run away from home a number of times before she was “physically assaulted, verbally abused and humiliated” in the early hours of April 6 last year, Derby Crown Court heard yesterday.
The schoolgirl, who was then 15, told the jury that she would smoke cannabis and hang around with older men who were drug-dealers and so was bringing shame on her Pakistani family.
That night, she was told to return home to St Thomas Road, Normanton, by 10pm but did not turn up until about midnight. As usual, she refused to tell her family who she had been with.
Miss Kiran, who admitted that she did not want to “bring shame on the family” by giving evidence, told the jury that her brother grabbed her as she went in and ripped her top.
While she was in the bathroom upstairs, Khalid (20) allegedly forced his way in and smashed her mobile phone on the floor, the court heard.
Miss Kiran told the jury that, when she went downstairs, Shaheen (45) twice ordered Khalid: “Take her down to the cellar. You kill her and I will take the blame.”
But Khalid allegedly replied: “Just give me half an hour” and “she’s going to talk tonight or she’s going to die.”
Miss Kiran said that her brother then took a spoon from the kitchen and forced her dental brace out with it, making her mouth bleed.
Khalid is then accused of getting a curry spoon, a rolling pin, a tin-opener and a knife.
His sister told the court that he hit her with the spoon a number of times and twice with the rolling pin, once so hard on her back that it made her scream.
She said that, at one stage, he had the knife in his hand and said: “Are you going to tell me their names or I swear I’m going to kill you?”
By 6am, Miss Kiran was able to go upstairs to bed after she lied and gave the names of two girls.
She told the court that her mother, who had earlier called her the Urdu word for a prostitute, had been upstairs all the time.
Miss Kiran, whose father lives in Pakistan, left home soon afterwards.
Shaheen denies child cruelty, while her son denies making a threat to kill, criminal damage and causing actual bodily harm.
The trial continues.**
