Re: Democracy in pakistan
However there is a path to democracy that goes through economic reforms and development of a strong and secular classes among landowners and businessmen.
For Pakistan, we do have secular landowner class. However our business class is rabidly religious. The result is the enormous funds for the Maulvi parties.
Another group of Pakistanis that is totally absent is "conservative economists". Our academia and journalists are 100% leftists when it comes to economy.
The day we get the right balance among these different groups, democracy will survive, nay thrive. Until then, we have to be content with regular bouts with Military rule.
