You own a dell? I am looking at the Latitudes (D839 to be exact). How is Dell?

I've used it before. Pretty reliable, economical. I had no complains about it.

Ideal for students.

I had a Dell Latitude...they're priced really well, and my college had a special discount...so it seemed like a good idea at first. But then it broke 6 months after the warranty expired (18 months after I bought it)...and they wanted $800-900 to fix it. Practically everyone I knew who bought a Dell laptop had to get theirs replaced within 2-3 years because they broke...I think the problem is that Dell uses refurbished parts in its new laptops to keep costs down. They claim it doesn't affect reliability...but I think it does.

My company uses leased laptops from Dell my model is Latitude D610. Haven't had any problems for last 2 and half years. Then again I have used other laptops too. The life of any brand of laptop is at the most 3 to 5 years ( my pesonal experience) then you want to buy a newer model anyway because the technology changes so fast and the prices go down too.

Dell's fine, have used the laptops and desktops for over a decade now. Actually recently I stopped buying Dell, but it had nothing to do with the quality. They just wouldn't give better deals and their renowned customer service has started sucking.

I have been using Dell laptops/desktops for the past 9 years. Dell laptops are considered to be the most reliable and rugged machines. They rarely break down and lately are very economical to my find.

dell used to be good
but know after china bought their laptop section,

it has no more durability
i mean they work good and have good parts but they look shhit, made of crapy plastic, like a toy.

Go for IBM or Sony

What type of nonsense is that? IBM sold off its PC division to Lenovo. Not Dell.

Dell is the best I have used many of them over the years . Currently have a XPS1210 with beefed up spec and have not complains . Most powerfull for the price you pay . Sony Toshiba more cosmetics ... dell the best even better than macbook . Look up comparision videos on youtube .

I have an HP laptop at home, Dell Latitude (D430) at work.

Dell is just phenomenal. Been using various Latitude models since 2001. No complaints whatsoever. Battery life was kinda poor but that was because our enterprise IT did not opt for Intel/Dell's battery management tools. I have got extended battery now and its good for 5+ hours, which is pretty decent.

HP is so-so. Spec wise its fine. Power adapter cable that goes into the computer broke within 5 months. Contacted HP support through email. Computer is still in warranty. They sent, not one, but two replacements and want me to keep both. So service was impressive. Computer is heavy, battery life is nothing to write home about. It is AMD processor so gets hot really quickly and a lot. Keyboard does not appear very robust, and my guess is, at least one or two keys will break soon.

Dell's keyboard only needed replacement once ('G' key broke in Pakistan). After coming back to US, asked for repair. Technician came in and replaced the whole keyboard in 5 minutes. I guess, it depends on what kind of service plan you are in. My work laptop gets updated every 2 years, so my experience with a particular Dell computer is limited to 2 years each time.

Been dealing with dell laptops for almost 6 years (in various IT departments), no complaints.

If you are going to buy, there are plenty of coupon codes available on the net that you can use to lower prices.

it is actually IBM sold to china

still dell is crap
i got a XPS1730, i dont say any thing abt the hardware, its great but

its got crapy plastic every where looks like toy.

i like the sony one of my friend which got a thumb scanner for security and it shines like Apple's Iphone

Please fogive me for the slap:smilestar: buying a 17 inch laptop is stupid but having said that compare apples with apples XPS1730(1710) are 17 inch laptops compare them with 17 inch laptops of sony .

Also XPS offer much superior hardware integration that ANY other brand

but do not get a 17 inch laptop get a desk top :smack:
My xps1210 is great and I take it every where with me:biggthumb

if acer laptops are in red sponsored by ferrari … and if paris hilton can carry a motorola v3 in pink .. so why shudnt there be a option in pink for laptops :smiley:
