Why is this fob and abcd/bbcd/cbcd thing only in Europe, US, Can? I have never heard any of those desi kids in Mid East bragging about how "Arabized" they are, how perfect their Arabic is, and how they only associate with Arabs. In fact, you will see people bragging about the opposite. How many desis in Dubai actually know Arabic? 0.2433% probably. Kum Haza, and Ven Maktab don't count as speaking Arabic.

oh sheesh namaan...the saying I think comes from all the immigrants who came to USA in the 1800s on boats, and processed thru Ellis Island near the Statue of Liberty - they were "boat people", FOBs etc. Didnt speak the language, didnt know the culture but they were definitely not all "brown" - they were just new to the country - as ALL americans were at some point in their heritage yeah? A FOB is ANYONE new to the country and unfamiliar with it no matter what their color, language or heritage....Anyway, the reference to boats comes from how they entered the country - so whatever you call immigrants to Pakistan, its not likely that the word would have anything to do with boats.

and it has lot to do with Pakistan ruled by Britishers, with white skin and better English. Now problem with our nation is that whoever have the same combination of characteristics is like a superior being to us. So its in our genes now, doesn't matter how much we like to run away from it or get educated. This is the very same reason that we like to divide our society on the bases of color and language i.e. Punjabi, Pushto, Sindhi, Balochi, Urdu, English. Its that inferiority complex in our selves that makes us adopt the 'superior' side.

Like I said we have Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi, Pathan for Pakistan, similarly we needed some identity to differ us from ordinary Pakistaniz. Here this term FOB comes in. We just adopted this term to include ourselves to superior side of Pakistani community abroad and exclude from the ordinary.
We don't need anyone else to apply 'divide and rule' on us now. We are self sufficent.

I dont know guys...personally I like a man who knows how to speak English AND Urdu fluently. Shows a bit of versatility that is sooooooooooooo imperative while living in the West.

The easiest tried and tested way of knowing if you are a FOB or ABCD is .... peanut butter.
FOBs hate peanut butter, no matter how long they have lived in America!
No FOB can ever grow to like it, or appreciate it. They think it's just weird.
Test this with any FOB that you know -- and you will see how accurate this litmus test is.
