erm Its embarassing to say it .. .. I have never used a deep fryer machine before … !
Just got it recently and am now wondering how do you guys clean the oil? Other then holding the entire machine upside down for the oil to drain out … I dont see any other way of doing it
me too. i find using a frying pan or skillet to be much more convenient and faster too. i dk how to clean it other than how u mentioned. maybe read the owner's manual..it may have instructions on cleaning it.
you should be able to lift the oil compartment out of the fryer
Exactly, and then drain the oil.
Make sure that oil is at room temp and use cold water to flush it down the drain as it freezes and easy to drain out. Hot water will melt the oil and you will clog your drain when it freezes again.
One very important thing to note you do not have to clean it every time you use it. You can use it many times before you clean and put new oil or grease for frying.
Some people including my wife have a notion that if you fry fish or something else with strong aroma then you cannot fry anything else and have to clean it out otherwise it will cause cross contamination. It is a wrong notion . Once the oil is heated to high temperature any kind of flavor it has will evaporate. I have proved it to many many of my family members , friends and my wife.
^so then how come the oil smells like fish for daysssss? last week i fried potatoes, and they tasted more like fish than anything else. i had to throw everything out, including the potatoes.

Okay, that's a really good tip. Can you please head over to the portal and post this under tips and tricks? :@:

Thoray paisay ziada day kar achcha wala deep fryer khareedna tha na which has activated charcoal filter built in. :D
Are you sure you are talking about Electric Deep Fryer not about a Karahi ?
I thought you should never discard oil by pouring it down the drain…
CB…My mom used to have a deep fryer and from what I remember she had to lift the entire thing to drain the cooking oil whenever it needed to be replaced .
She only used it for frying chicken and it was quite a few times chicken was fried that the oil had to be replaced.
She kinda stopped using it after a while because of the hassle of cleaning the fryer…

while we are at this topic, I have a question for oil in karhai.. how many times do you guys change oil in karhai? What are the signs that require the oil change? I dont want to discard oil after frying pakoray, samosay etc. but how do I get rid of those thin pieces of pakoray that continue to burn if left in oil? grr I dun make sense but hopefully someone understands that.
Gemini , I know what you mean , I just usually use a perforated spoon to take the tiny bits out … but i dont change oil …
Actually what i do is , instead of frying in the same oil again and again , I take 3-4 tablespoons full of the same oil for the daily cooking … That way the oil doesnt get wasted… and when i have to fry something i just top up the oil in the karahi …
I dunno if its good or bad , but its working out well …
It sounds good but I use olive oil for daily cooking and vegetable oil for frying becuase I once read somewhere taht if you use the olive oil for deep frying it can be dangerous.. I dun remember the whole thing but I just don't do taht anymore. :-(
