Re: Debating the Hijab
I totally agree with your answer here Angel Eyes and would like to add on to it a little bit. Noor mentioned that we get attention while we wear hijaab because we look different. That is absolutely TRUE that after 9/11 we do attract more attention. I, myself when started to wear it, I faced a lot of attraction too. I was asked many questions too BUT religiously NOT sexually.
Noor, as Angel Eyes said that these two harrassments are not the same, so it is true. Subahanallah, even though I was working at jewish place, and they saw me b4 without hijaab and also when i actually start wearing hijaab, i was attacked by soo many eyes and questions But i faced them and answered them and fought them back BECAUSE it was ME who decided to wear hijaab and I knew how to fight for something that is Mine.
I don’t know whether i have mentioned this b4, but after wearing hijaab I was threatened to be killed and shot at my own work place. Did i get scared? Did I complain about it? Did i take any action against it? The answer is alhamdullilah I wasnt scared and I complained b/c was pressurized by my family ![]()
Also, wearing a hijaab has given me more self confidence and I feel more secure when I am around men. To be honest, guys respect you more. But then it also depends how u carry yourself with a hijab on. There are some hijabis that would go out clubbing with frens and tell themselves as liberate muslim…what do they get in return, TALKS. We get to hear talk that even though we r hijabis we r still digusting from inside. Just because of one person’s action we all get the bad label even though not all five fingers are the same.
Wearing hijaab is a HUGE responsibility in a matter of how u carry yourself out in WEST and Non-Islamic society because then they judge you and then start assuming same things for other hijaabis based on what they experienced form you (the hijaban). But that doesnt really mean that you just cut yourself off from society just to prove a point of that hijaabis are good. I go out with frens, I enjjoy my life both in school and outside school BUT i ALWAYS keep in mind that not to do something that would cause any kind of re-birth of statements against hijaabis and Muslims. As a muslims, I think it is our duty not to let any non-muslims to say bad things infront of you and even though If you do get to hear something, its our job to make an end to it.
Also, Noor you just pointed finger at AE saying in her pic she is not wearing hijaab…what kind a muslim sister are you that you are pointing at your own muslim sis and mocking at her. Yes, she opened this thread because she wants to know and she is indeed learning. So, please as a muslims we should be helping out not start poking into each other eyes for somethign that he/she is trying to learn.
