Is it a deal breaker if the guy writes essays for companies that sell the essays to grad/college students so they can plagiarize.
Re: Deal breaker
But it’s a deal breaker if the SO keeps asking strangers for what they think rather then thinking about it herself or discussing it with him.

Re: Deal breaker
If college kids need those essays to pass their classes, they are too stupid for college but that's besides the point.
In my opinion, it is not a deal breaker but then I am not that shareef myself. You should measure his sharafat against yours. I am pretty sure you will even out.
Re: Deal breaker
Yes deal breaker for me as its haraam money.
And haraam money never brings barkaat into the house.
Just my opinion :)
Re: Deal breaker
There has to be a deal before it could be broken.
Re: Deal breaker
no one is perfect including you and I...one has to settle for less!
@Coffeegirl: while i agree with you, however, it would mean that a pious Muslim should NOT work for Banks or any other business or organizations that deal with rib'a [usury] or those who work against the interests of the human beings. right?
it's a catch-22 situation...innit?

He does that for a living?

I was considering a rishta and he had done something similar during his undergrad years. It was a red flag for me. I started to pay careful attention to how he differentiates right from wrong, and if his overall values were such that he didn't care about doing the right thing. It didn't permeate through his personality. When I realized that, it wasn't a big deal anymore.
If it were to happen in the present, I would at least bring it up in conversation.
Re: Deal breaker
The companies must be paying him for writing the essays which they will then later use to help College students cheat their way to success. It's not kosher. As Coffee said earlier, why deprive yourself of barkat? If it's something he did in the past and now he earns a decent living and seems like a good person when you talk to him, then let it go. If he's currently doing this ...even just as a side job...I'd be wary.
Re: Deal breaker
Yes, it is haram money.
Re: Deal breaker
Did he know that is what this company was doing?
Re: Deal breaker
At least he can write :halo:
Re: Deal breaker
Don't good students in pak do that anyway. Write reports, do projects, write programs for college students who r too big a procrastinator to do it themselves. Does it seem more serious since he's not dealing with the students directly but a company who arranges their assignments and projects to be done? Like organized crime :)

Mike Ross.
Re: Deal breaker
That is a big full stop at the end of the sentence.

Why don't you tell us?
Re: Deal breaker
lol srsly you haven't seen anything what goes on in academia
Re: Deal breaker
not a deal breaker for me.
Don't we all get the ideas and information from the content that is publicly available on internet anyways?
if students who are not good at writing themselves for the reasons as lack of information on the subject or not having good command on the language etc, and if they are purchasing that information from the company that deals in it, then i don't take it as a serious crime, and hence don't see anyone working for that kinda company as a culprit.
Re: Deal breaker

lol agreed
it's clear from some of the responses it's been A LONG TIME since they were enrolled in an educational institute. Long time doesn't just mean time, it's also a metaphor for how insanely different things are now compared to not so long ago.
oh and "haram money"? Can you fatwa issuers please pipe down?
If this is the case, you better make sure you've never taken a loan of ANY kind, won a lottery, made ANY money off an investment (this includes interest rates for personal accounts, dividends from any stock, superannuation, etc), received any form of financial assistance that you dont have to pay back (student grant, the dole, pension, situational benefits).
THE STATEMENT BELOW ASSUMES THE STUDENTS ARE IN A WESTERN COUNTRY
Also, I don't think you guys understand how DIFFICULT it is to actually get with any serious form of plagiarism nowadays, such as this would be. I would be EXTREMELY surprised if these essays are handed in by students as they are written by the author. Please do not pass judgement so easily without knowing much.
OP told you in one line what he does. If that's enough for you guys to pass judgement, disgusting. Everything is not as black and white as op presented it, of this I am certain.
(I don't include Pakistan in this because it's been a long time since I studied there and can't make an informed statement)
THE STATEMENT BELOW ASSUMES THE STUDENTS ARE IN PAKISTAN
Really? In a country where 58.7 million people (please let that number sink in) are living below the poverty line, you want to condemn a man who writes for a living?
The man produces his own work. It is then sold. I think you guys should lax up. There are a lot worse things a person can do for a living.
Don't be so quick to call the man's hard earned rozi haram, based on one sentence. Not only is that ignorant, it's horribly rude and straight up vile.
Edit: Just noticed, it was just the ladies that questioned his religious integrity (thus far). Just something I wanted to point out.
