Day/Night Farces turn the World Cup into a Lottery

Asif Mian I just lost all respect for you. Sometimes you need to look at the broader picture and not let petty jealousies cloud your judgement.

Let me ask you a simple question. Would you bat second in a D/N game if you won the toss?

and please provide an example of a captain who has done so in the past if you don't think there is any big advantage in winning the toss.

AQ yaar, I just lost respect for you too. You mentioned Newlands specifically. I can show you your edited post if you like but I thought you were better than that.

Never mind.

May be you are true…I might have messed up between these 2.I did have confusion about these 2 places then.
So peace out… Dil pe mat le yaar… !!! haath me le

Dont worry I am not here to take " Respect ka Tamga " from you.

By the way here are the list of matches where Team winning the toss elected to chase and won at Kingsmead ina D/N ODI…

Just helping Asif.

As I said earlier you will be surprised to know that at Kingsmead team batting 2nd in D/N matches have won more matches.

Xtreme - first of all you need to think before accusing me of jealousy. You are the one who is having a serious fit of jealousy since India won the game which you were so hoping us to lose.

And about the respect thing - hey its same feeling here, I thought you were a mature guppie but you are worse than all of them.

Why dont you answer one Question - Would you have whined so much If Pakistan had won the Toss against England and won the game ??

and If I won the Toss, why would I bat second ?? And I wouldn’t whine also (like you are doing) after losing the toss.

Sure :- http://www-rsa.cricket.org/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/WORLD_CUPS/WC96/WC96-MATCHES/SL_IND_WC96_ODI-SEMI1_13MAR1996.html

Can we keep this to a broader aspect of rights and wrongs of D/N matches in SA rather than turning it into a bitching contest?

Now obviously people are concerned because the authorities are going to be inundated with the same concerns I had before any matches were played wrt the semi-finals, i.e. : WIN THE TOSS WIN THE MATCH IN LOTTERY EXTRAVAGANZA

Let's see what transpires ;)

Yes..lets keep it little broader and dont limit ourself to these 2 matches.... can you backup your claim with some stats...Dont limit discussion to only 2 matches just because result didnt go the way you wanted it.

There is no end to your whining, Here is a match from WC 2003 a D/N match where canada decided to bat still they lost to Kenya

On the Same Ground WI-SA match WI won only by 3 runs.

Aus won the toss, decided to field and won the match :-

At DURBAN :-

Aus won the toss, elect to field and won the match :-

There are more, let me know If the above are not enough to stop your whinings.

AQ,

only thing I would ever ask for is a level playing field. We got that on Saturday, and that's all that counts. Let's see who wins.

If Pakistan plays better than India, then they will win. But I will not come and whine that there was lot of moisture in the morning or wind in the evening that helped the seamers.

Win and loss are part of the game, accept it and dont give excuses.

Well at least I ain’t so pathetic that I have to resort to posting a whole load of links to God knows what to prove my point :hehe:

Look man, it’s fair conditions on Saturday, same for both sides so I guess it should be a good match

Yep...true..
By the way I am rooting for Pakistan..who r u supporting?

Actually you are worse than being pathetic. It is you who wanted an example if any captain had elected to field after winning the toss and now when slapped on your face with so many examples, you come back here and laugh at it. Only you can do that.:disgust:

Truth is I didn’t even look at those links. I said what I needed to say **before ** any match and I was right. Watch out in the next few days for Day/Night Lottery headlines if I am wrong :hehe:

Saturday isn’t a D/N’er my friend  Let’s see what we are made of then on a level playing field.

Brother...You are putting too many eggs in one basket. But anyway I hope Pak wins . :)

Truth is someone was slapped very hard with links after they asked for those examples :hehe: and another truth is that your team is participating in those Lottery games

its a basic fact that durban is about 50/50 condition dependent and even than it is not to the extreme where a "big boy" team can lose in a manner that england lost..not denying that conditions dont matter but there is something called skill and talent too. This type of nagging just brings out the soreness in the losing teams....just look at when SA lost to Windies, you did not hear pollock whining about the lights and moisture and all that other junk. The main thing is at the end of the day the better team won.

thats the Aussies are planning it from right now that, i guesss they dont wanna play the semis under lights tooo as batting will definately difficult as the we get into the final stages of the world cup!!!

All the teams who are in the super sixes wouldnt wanna be either 1st or 4th in the group as they are gonna play the first semi-final @ Port Elizabeth and its a day game!

Xtreem bhai, I know it pains me to death so much by saying but I agree with Asif Khan.
It was pure luck that India won the toss but they played better, yes India won because conditions supported them but thats all part of the game. England had a 75% of winning had they batted first as well.
The only thing matters is that the better team won at the end of the day.

Thank god India-Pakistan match is not a D/N nor the Aus-Eng and Pak-Zim, as they all effects Pakistan's chances in the super 6.

If your still bringing up the Day Night games, you have some problem. Anything can happen to teams - anytime, anywhere, any place. Weather, pitch invasions/crowd problems, Duckworth Lewis method, "Batting under the lights", poor umpring decisions, etc.

If teams in the past have won batting second, how come England and Pakistan couldn't? As stated previously, South Africa has won against the likes of the bowling of Australia.

Cricket is a funny game, and some days it can go your way, other days it may go towards the other guys way. Pakistan lost, England lost, India played with good skill, end of story. Time to look on to the future games comming up.

This is the fun of the World Cup :D
Bring it On

Well Said UMAIR and PEOPLECHAMP..... :)

Now how can opponent of D/N match justify 222 runs scored by Windies . they were just badluck not to win...
Any comments Xtreme??

If batsmen apply themselves they can win matches on these wickets also... I know conditions are little favourable for bowlers but not as favourable to be 80/9 or 107/8
