Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

Interesting comments on how the Davis case could backfire on Pakistan

Some officials and analysts believe, however, that the army is in danger of overplaying its hand on this occasion. “This issue, with this Congress, could become really more problematic than anything we’ve had,” says Christine Fair, assistant professor at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. “The Pakistanis have been very ungracious about American support. We’ve been the biggest donors in terms of flood relief. And yet, the Saudis and the Chinese who’ve donated a fraction of that get all the genuflection.”

“There are people in this town,” adds Washington-based Fair, “who are simply saying, ‘F— this, let’s just call Pakistan the enemy.’ They are saying Pakistan is supporting the killing of our troops in Afghanistan, they’re supporting the LeT, they call [the rogue Pakistani nuclear scientist] AQ Khan a national hero. The fact that the CIA is coming to this conclusion should be very worrisome for Pakistan. For years, the CIA was the only organization in this town that would defend the Pakistanis.”

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

Release Mr.Davis and get out of the problem. There is no point in keeping him behind bars.It will only further strain the relations.

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

just wait for one more month, and let Taleban start their "spring session" in afghanistan and then we'll see how it actually haunts america and nato, not pakistan. Pakistan is already in trouble, pakistan has been in trouble, we are used to it, like they say "mushkilain parain itnee kay aasaan ho gaieen" its time for usa/nato to taste it...

and funny how some people are dying to see this with b¡tch to be released... specially some indians

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

Biggest donors??

Pakistan spent $43 billion on this pointless war which has damaged the pakistan nation more than any other. What compensation did Pak get? kerry luger bill $7.5 billion and that is with conditions attached!

do the maths pakistan lose again.

Since pak government allow america into the nation the economy has been destroyed, they have US facilities in every corner of country, we have drone attacks on our people daily, we have the xe/blackwater attacking our city centers and blaming shia or sunni or taliban imaginary figures.

And now we have so called US diplomats who are are ex green beret and cia agents who take pictures of military installations and then shoot people in the back 10 times.

Pakistan does not need america cut the links the war will be over and Pakistan can concentrate on rebuilding itself.

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

^^ Americans are just playing games here, by Pakistan they mean the assets of Pakistani officials and politicians in US and other western countries... if US is serious in getting RAD out, then there is one simple button he have to press.. seize the assets of Zardari and NS in west... they'll lick each and every inch of US

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

Indeed I agree with you 100%.

Time for the people in Pakistan to sort out the swamp life politicians once and for all… compared to this misery I would not even mind considering drastic action. Revolutions all the way :dhimpak:

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

basically the americans are playing games with pakistan, they want to push over the afghan war into pakistan and pakistan has been happily playing that all along...but now i guess the military establishment has started thinking that enough is enough...the americans need to keep pakistan destabilized so that they have a reason to stay in central asia, and control the energy corridors in the region, and keep an eye on china and iran from afghanistan...this is the thinking why the americans want to keep their bases in afghanistan long after the current war is over; and as far as pakistan is concerned they want to carve out pashtunistan and balochistan from it...thats the reason why they are wanting to step up the drone attacks and asking pakistan to step up its operations as well so that a time might come when this so called war on terror will be hijacked by powers wanting disintegration of pakistan...

the situation of balochistan also deteriorated when china started building the gwadar port...when laymen like us can see that is our army and isi blind?

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

By the way by blindly following america's orders we are almost on the point of no return; i dont think we can further slide from the point we are now presently.

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

As far as her comments that in spite of the american aid why are the people against american; the americans are not kids they know the reasons for that one one hand they call pakistan as an ally an on the other hand they are not willing to believe the pakistani government or army! the americans are carrying out drone attacks on pakistani soil in blatant violation of pakistan’s sovereignty and pakistan is still an ally…they are helping anti pakistan elements in nwfp and balochistan and still pakistan is an ally…they are already treating pakistan as an enemy in the guise of ally so i dont think anything worse will happen in that respect…

if pakistan is supporting the killings of americans in afghanistan they are doing the same by supporting ttp and baloch separatists, if aq khan is our hero (what has that to do with americans)…are we the 51st state of america that we should believe in those ideals that the americans have?? as far as CIA is concerned they can go to hell, but they should leave pakistan alone…

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

I agree, but I think army and ISI are purposefully trying to undermine Pakistani govt. BTW, keep in mind that US cannot use drones to attack within Pakistan w/o the knowledge of ISI/army.

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

^ although i feel (and its a strong feeling) that a portion of army/isi is involved in allowing drones, because at the first place it all started in mu$h era, and he was a military ruler, he couldnt have done everything alone, without any support from army, so for sure there were (are) people in army/isi who supported it...

but! what about those statements from pee pee pee govt that "we dont have technology to shot the drones" and then right after few days demonstrations by PAF/Army to shot down drones?? what about those loud and clear statements which army/airforce officials gave, something like "we can bring down these drones if govt orders us"... and then govt not responding to this???

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

I think government i strying to undermine ISI too. There should have been a clear policy in issuing visas to americans in consultation with ISI, seems Rehman Malik and ISI were not on the same page on this issue.

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

the americans always lie. these idiots had always treated pakistan not as her frend, but as an enemy and still our government officials obey their US masters for dollars. these idiots cannot see the sacrifices and huge amount that pakistan has spent on it’s so called war against terror which terror is funded by americans themselves in order to destablize and disintegrate pakistan.

i think ISI should work to teach CIA a lesson, a very painful lesson so that it cannot again dare to continue it’s evil aims in pakistan.

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

well what the government of stupids could think about ISI as they see dollars flying here and there infront of their eyes. so, they are just ignorant and foolish. they can't do anything for pakistan. everything is given to them inherited. loadshedding is given to them from the previous governments and according to them as it is inherited disease, so these problems cannot be eliminated from the country. but i ask these idiots that what the hell are they being paid for if they cant solve country's matters and problems?

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

BLUFF. USA cannot afford another 'enemy' in the region. EU is already tired of American adventures and Americans cannot even smoothly withdraw from Afghanistan if they break relations with Pakistan. They need Pakistan much more than Pakistan needs them and the pittance they give us is nothing compared to the pain they cause us.

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

So they can kick us wherever they want since they assisted us in flood relief? Why don’t these idiots realize what Raymond was doing in Pakistan was not a ‘relief’ work, they should just STFU.

This is nothing but attempt to threaten, US will trash Pakistan as soon as it has achieved its task in the region and Pakistan will be back to square one trying to regain its foot and re-establish everything from basic infrastructure to ties with its neighbors, borders etc.

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

and according to some news sources, it looks like a solution has been hammered... it may be something like this

  • raymond case continues in slow pace, he continues to enjoy vacation in "jail".
  • usa takes the case to ICJ
  • pakistani court convicts raymond of murder, and hands out death penalty
  • victims' families would then be pursued to accept blood money and let the gora go
  • case in ICJ will be left to die out

though blood money/ deyat in this case is not applicable as explained by ulema karam several times, because its not just a murder case, it involves espionage and other crimes

what pakistan and usa will get out of this "solution"

  • pak govt/ politicians will get several million dollars to keep them happy
  • pak army/ isi also gets several million dollars
  • usa will save herself from further crack down on their agents in pakistan and will successfully stop real juicy details of this case going into public
  • usa faces a little milder attacks this spring and is somehow helped in getting out of afghanistan

if this happens, the only loser in this whole episode is Pakistan. the victims' families (who are forced to accept money against their will) and Pakistanis in general who will continue to bear this same corrupt govt and deal with routine terrorism due to traitorous acts of our politicians and military...

Re: Dangers of trying to push around the Superpower

There are some politicians who haven't even said a single thing and are sitting quietly pretending nothing happened; not even a blanket statement whether he should be tried by the courts or not. This just shows to see how much spine they have.
