So a literal human-like creature who will be blind from one eye will be on a metaphoric donkey. Perhaps it’s ok to say that the dajjal may well be a pilot by profession ?

Also, why is it that one part of the hadith is taken literally while the other not literally ?

No one will be ok with Jesus to be killing dajjal, my friend. You think Jesus a.s will kil dajjal and not face any consequences? and also go around breaking crosses and killing of swines?

The ahadith of the Dajjal and the donkey are as so:

1. Jabir bin Abdullah (ra) narrated. That Prophet (saw) while discussing about Dajjal said: And his donkey on which he will arrive, will have a span of 40 hands between his two ears.[Musnad Ahmad].

2. Ibn Umr (ra) narrated: Prophet(saw) while discussing about Dajjal said: He will have a donkey whose span between two ears will be 40 Ba.[Kunzal Amaal].

3. Abu Hurrairah (ra) narrated that Prophet(saw) said: Dajjal will come on very white donkey. Whose span between two ears is 70 Ba. [Bihaqqi].

4. Prophet(saw) said, “The distance between the two ears of the Dajjal’s donkey will be 70 cubits” [Baihaqi, Meshkat].

5. Nawas(ra) bin So’man narrated that : Prophet(saw) said, “The Dajjal’s movement will be very fast. It will roam the sky like a cloud driven by wind.” [Muslim, Tirmizi].

6. One of the companions asked,” O Allah’s Messenger, how fast will he travel? Thereupon he (saw) said,” like cloud driven by wind”. [Muslim,Tirmizi] .

The donkey reference here is not metaphorical … It is also not a literal reference. It is an exchanged term. So the essence of the hadith is literal, except in those concepts that do not exist of the time when the statements were made … i.e. since planes were not invented the reference to plane or vehicle was not mentioned to avoid disclosure of a future event. We have to bear in mind also that RasoolAllah (SAW) having received knowledge directly would relate the knowledge in linguistic terms that are already understood …
