Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

urdu press is usually based in Pakistan but i have read some fantastic urdu columns.

khurshid nadeem is an established and a serious columnist and here is a great article by him. Everyone who can read urdu should read this column. he is articulating that daesh/isis is not only present in pakistan but it is actually flourishing. he has also summarized the hatred-based narrative of all religious organizations and their supporters in Pakistan and showed how that narrative is supporting daesh/ISIS directly or indirectly. our politicians and establishment is so tunnel visioned that they cant see the danger and are not doing anything about it.

Please read and comment constructively.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

some weeks ago, our interior minister talked about the need of having counter-narrative. but where is our much discussed narrative to counter this venomous doctrine. only military action will not do. we need to counter them on intellectual grounds also.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

Very true. Strange enough u will find many educated ppl around u who firmly believe in most of the point mentioned. Specialy i found it most common believe that all jew around u r wajib ul qatl. Another point is individual act of killing based on blasphemy accusation is correct.
Wen any one has such thinking they r very much prone to religious extremism.

Btw such thinking is not only in civil but very much prevail in a group of our army as well. That's why u see for big attacks there is support from inside involved.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

N I think if u make a poll on the points above u may find some ppl here at gs having the same or similar thinking.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

ISI can tell better
They are often mastermind beyond these monesters

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

first bhutto gave up under mullah pressure and finally allowed mullahs to have their way by declaring ahmadis non-muslims as well as taking many other steps to make the society 'islamic". that was the start. Mullahs realized that they can win against the state by creating pressure even though they had never won anything in elections. not to mention, Bhutto courted mullahs way too much while drafting 1973 constitution .... Bhutto will forever be remembered in history for his weak behavior against mullahs. thanks for destroying the social fabric of our society Bhutto.

then came zia regime.....state establishment especially army Establishment under zia regime created, nurtured, and flourished the toxic narrative, which khursheed nadeem has listed above, for decades and inculcated this into our army psyche as well as into our syllabus and thus polluted whole generations. hatred and intolerance against yahood, hanood and ahmadis reached to another level. i remember hamid gul and many other army leaders openly talking about establishing some sort of Islamic kingdom by wining Afghanistan and then extending it to central asia...they called pakistan army muslim army.

raheel sharif is now trying to reverse the damage but it is not easy plus we need intellectually driven counter narrative by state...but this govt is useless. PPP is useless as we saw. PTI has not done anything either in KPK from counter narrative standpoint

so who will do it? who will stand up to these religious terrorists in Pak? hai koi?

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

uncle did you read the article? pls be honest

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

A counter narrative is needed, along with good governance. I personally think groups like these thrive in vacuum, perfect example is of Sindh which is ruled by 'liberal' PPP which is offering a counter narrative, on the other hand reach of terrorists is increasing in the province, main reason being bad governance. You can keep shouting against terrorism on top of your throats but if you don't regulate the madrasahs propping up in the country you are doomed. Iraq was ruled by a secular dictator, most public of the country was secular as well. We can see the impact war and resulting vacuum has had there.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

^ it is not only mullah. This infection is now reached to many ppl from conventional college and universities .

Our religious leaders who are supposed to provide correct narrative are either scared or paid. Pd mentioned correctly that this gandgi collected in years. So will take years to get clean up . At least we need to start. On a small scale we all can contribute by discussing with ppl. Many who are confused may get a tilt towards rite direction by rite discussion n guidance.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

As I have said before, you can't have military operations while leaving factories of hate for young children functioning out of complicity or just plain not caring about what happens outside of your own housing societies.

I know that politicians are ghaddars, but why isn't army pushing a danda up fazlu's *** among others to get it done? Don't they get it that no DHAs, fauji foundation would be left if there is no Pakistan? Even jamat can't say choo in front of army.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

If you want to compress all the points listed in the article into one or two points then here is my attempt:

1) twisted concept of jihad
2) twisted concept of re-establishment of Khilafat

if the scholars/authorities can take on these two points, all others will automatically be taken care of

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

How can you stop militancy when organisations like JUD are more effective than provincial governments during crisis times like floods and earthquake. In the previous elections in most constituencies in rural Sindh JUI was competing against PPP (runners up in many constituencies) securing thousands of votes.

You are right. This infestation is reaching the educated class nowadays.

Thank you Express for breaking this news that the caught Daesh terrorist has given lists of Daesh’s Pakistan members, the members can now “renounce” membership and live “peacefully”.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

Whole world is trying to fight this. Scholars from all countries around the world are trying to give this alternative narrative.

I dont know why people call it a "narrative". It's not a movie script.

The Quran is so clear on these topics. Oppression is vile, and muslims need to stand up against it. And irony is that ISIS has taken the concept of "Jihad", which is nothing more than permission for muslim states to have their own armies and protect themselves in a modern sense, and turned it into permission to fight guerilla warfare AGAINST muslim states, creating division and murder between the faithful, to divide them, and hence take their faith away.

It's a great ploy by the Devil really, and it's sad so many people are falling for it. But people who understand the Quran see through it.

This isn't just a problem in Pakistan, it's everywhere. For you to expect the Pakistani government can fight this off when no one else can, then wishful thinking.

This gandagi form of thinking - it's now a pandemic. People converting into Islam and being born into Islam are being brainwashed into this. Not new. I remember the Arabs in college, and how they used to act, and how people they converted used to act. No different than these barbarians. They had a mini-ISIS state on campus, and no one wanted to talk about it back then. The musallah where we prayed, had all kinds of stupid rules, just like you see these ISIS goons and Taliban goons imposing on others.

This disease has been growing for a long time. The time to speak out about it was about 10 years ago.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

Atleast we need to start. for example the guy who is supposedly provoked Qadri , hanif qureshi is a very big chawal ( just watch his munaazraat with people of other sect , his attitude is sooo un-educated even from madrassa standard ) yet he has many many followers . It is duty of state to put such chracters in jail or simply eliminate them . Any one who provokes laymen for killing others must be in jail straight away . There should be no tolerance on this issue by state as it is against rit of govt. ...

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

The Lal Masjid clerics are the first ones who should be in jail for life for such things. Or executed. People have forgotten how they kidnapped Chinese nationals, and how they kidnapped women in accusations of running prostitution rings without putting in FIR's and letting the courts handle it.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

but at the same time idiots are fueling this fire, everybody is so focused on wrongs of ISIS, wrongs of Alqaida.... yes they are wrong, they are bl00dy wrong but who is putting fuel in these fires? Why is world not putting criminals behind this situation to trial? As long as there is injustice, unfortunately "terrorism" will not go away.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

^ You're right. No one country is taking severe action against these people. At least round them up and put them in Jail.

Part of the problem is how do you differentiate one of these people from just someone who is super religious but peaceful? They look and dress the same. The murderer just needs to hide his nefarious ideas, and he can travel as wolf in sheep's clothing and no one likes imprisoning sheep.

Re: Daesh/ISIS in Pakistan

who takes action against his own self!
