I know its still quite popular in India but no more in Pakistan (at least not in Karachi). These guys are just amazing. I think its probably one of the most efficient delivery service of any kind that is in assistance in sub-continent, and its all manual labor, nothing high tech.
no personal experience but mumbais dabba service is one of the most efficient services.....
i think it is able to get six sigma ratings for service....
It used to be like that in Karachi too. I am not sure what happened then. Maybe because of city expansion and lack of predictable public transportation and general law and order situation made it obsolete.
Dabba walas are so famous that national geographic made a documentry on them n that was mind blowing how they work and never made a mistake,in Karachi there are many ladies making food n serving them to ppl working in offices, they hv set quite a business there!

yes, i watched that...i've seen them in action on Mumbai streets, trains and in elevators. they are amazing because they are illiterate people doing the job so efficiently...they use markers to distinguish hundreds of tiffins. :)

I think in Pakistan, its affected by the Restaurants offering home / office delivery.

Oh its good to know that they still exist in Karachi.
When it comes to efficiency, my hat is also off for the Railway platform and dining car vendors and Cinema Hall intermission time Soda and Chips sellers. Its amazing how these guys take orders, deliver food and then come back to collect money, and serve dozens of people in one go, all without taking a single note - everything out of memory.
