** DAAM **

Re: ** DAAM **

^^ don't think you are Dorree. Fiza is going to manipulate everyone into thinking she is the innocent one and Mamoo will be forced to marry his son off to his niece. It such a common issues these days - cousins forced to marry eachother to protect the khandani izzat. Since the name of the serial is Daam everyone will have to pay a price for something even if they don't deserve it.
I wonder if Zara will grow bitter like her sister toward the end of the serial or will she be strong enough to come out of this unscathed and become a successful doctor?

Re: ** DAAM **

Seems like finally there's going to be some drama in the next episode...though I really can't see how Junaid will be bullied into marrying that jerk Fiza. Besides that not making sense, cousin marriage is bad biology and leads to inbreeding and mutant kids.

Re: ** DAAM **

Agree with dooree Fiza is going to get her way. Also, two of Mehreen's dramas- Malal and Doraha have shown the main characters to marry under pressure and then later pay a price for their inability to stand up for themselves. Zara will be left with the choice to move on or simply give up on life like her sis Asma.

Re: ** DAAM **

If it does happen then it'll be just Doraha in a different package.... I seriously hope Mehreen's got something different this time around. As for Fiza, she really needs to back off.

Re: ** DAAM **

my husband always says there is usually a divorce in every one of Umera Ahmed's plays so let's see if it holds true in this play too. ;-)

Re: ** DAAM **

I like...very contemporary drama with very relatable characters. its just too darn sad though :(

like others have said i also see a recurring theme in doraha, malal and now daam, that of educated otherwise sensible and independent people making a muck of their lives by choosing wrong partners due to social or family pressures.

Re: ** DAAM **

the anticipation of Junaid's impending doom is killing me:p. daiiiiim that fizza. SLAAAAAAAPPPP.
..waisay after seeing VASL, I've concluded that chapairs spice up otherwise slow paced dramaz. Having mastered the art of directing chapairs i hope mehreen will give us some more chappairs to enjoy in Daam. and needless to say, hopefully Fizza will be the victim of these chappairs:p... man i feel evil...

Re: ** DAAM **

Never realized how those chapairs in Vasl would become so famous. Poor Tooba had to suffer some real ones when we were shooting, but I suppose there's nothing like a good slap, though one has to use them with caution.
Daam may be slow paced but I do feel it is taking the right time to establish the characters and not rush through them.
By the way, would love to hear what kind of topics or stories the members in this forum would like to see more of in serials. What is missing or what is it that hasn't been covered in a while? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Re: ** DAAM **

^Hmmm…Have you ever had a character punched in your drama before? I think Fiza would be a great candidate for this new form of expression. A chapair doesn’t do justice :nono:

I got loads of ideas for drama topics, will pm them to you.

Re: ** DAAM **

A punch (or even a slap) in slo-mo would be amazing....and if the DOP can use some anime photography techniques while at it...would totally awesome haha :)

Re: ** DAAM **

HEHEHEHEEH.@ Mehreen. don't get me wrong, the pace of the drama is just perfect. since the characters feel so real, seeing the attitude of ppl like mamo and Fiza is like watching someone kick a kitten, which explains everyone's violent fantasies:)

PLEASE PLEASE do a murder mystery.

Re: ** DAAM **

There's one idea I have that's very relevant to some of the issues we are facing in pakistan. Haven't you ever wondered what posses a suicide bomber to blow himself up? I would like someone to humanize a suicide bomber and show us his story. I am not asking that his actions be justified, but that we get a glimpse into his life. I remember when BB was assassinated, all newspapers ran graphic pix of the suicide bomber's blown up skull and I kept thinking that this was a person, a person who had a family, a home, a life. I tried to imagine the circumstances that led him to commit such a heinous act.... anyways just a suggestion.

^^ it's been done before, besides i'm not sure if its really prudent to show such folks in a more humane light

i'd like to see a corporate woman taking on the world, a la Zara in Tanhaiyan...it'll be a departure from the *saarhee *serials and it'll be interesting to watch a woman with business (literally) on her mind battling her way through and getting what she wants -- sans the lollywood message that those are western mores and result in social and familial breakdown

I am sure it's been done before but prob in a OTT way. a director with Mehreen Jabbar's caliber will be able to do justice to the story without making it melodramatic . I never said the story should be in the favor of these ppl or paint them as heroes, all I am saying is I'd like to hear their story too and I know I am not the only one.

.

relevant does not have to be depressing...besides this suicide bombing thing has been overdone on our news channels. we've watched their interviews and documentaries .don't think it would be someting exciting for people to watch.infact we want a break from this mess. we watch dramas to get a break from reality.

but why do you have to show the chapair ? there are plenty of ways to convey things without showing.

^ b/c in reality people lose their cool & get physical without thinking about the consequences. The director’s aim is to closely mirror the reality.

dramas are for entertainment purposes primarily, if directors and writers keep that in mind, it'll be a hit no matter, sounds pretty simple but not so when u look at the melodrama overdose these days. tackle the social issues but don't make it the main focus, that becomes a drag, has to be interwoven in the story and characters highlighted just like the 80s and 90s classics, humour was always a key element in these classics which made them all the more enjoyable. follwing the various drama threads right here on GS its pretty unanimous what audiences like or dislike, no brainer there.

and please no dramas on suicide bombers, that is just not entertaining to watch in the least, might be for the overseas audience but for people living this nightmare in Pakistan, this is not a subject of entertainment and should not be tackled as such. plenty of coverage they get on news, talk shows and documentaries which is more than enough.

Hi Mehreen, it is an honour to have you here. About your question, i think 'physical abuse' in the educated, white collar and upper middle class hasnt been highlighted or shown.
Also, 'mama's boy' issues, most marriage problems in our society occur due to this reason.

Coming back to Daam, i cant wait to see if Simi marries her boss or not!
