Daal roti, Anda Chawal

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

hahaha…

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

I prefer roti with daal.

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

In the south, daal is often eaten with rice not roti. Daal with Roti for us makes for a very bland and unexciting fare and a rather strange combo. We prefer some nice spicy curries with our rotis  Rice on the other hand is eaten with various types of daals- tomato daal, palak daal, methi daal etc

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

how about two chapaatis with daal fillings in between them called bhari roTii...? do you have that in the south?

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

Whole wheat flour rotis- chapatis or phulkas are also eaten as breakfast also in the south but I think in other places, it is a part of the lunch cusine. Am I wrong?

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

Nope. Is it sweet like Puran poli? Our sweet version has a cooked chana dal paste with jiggery and elaichi flavoring. That is the only thing that has a daal filling but is made of maida not whole wheat flour.

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

oh i see...yes, the filling is called pooran but in Northern India, daal is NOT sweet...

swwet daal :) must be yummy! :)

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

anda-parathas is the most common breakfast item in Pakistan

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

Havent really seen anyone eating 'daal gosht' here in India. I have a big friend circle which comprises of people across the country and religions and I never saw it...

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

Yes yes, ripe mango tastes yumm with both paratha and puri :) In fact aamras-puri is a standard seasonal offering here in Maharashtra :)

Re: Daal roti, Anda Chawal

the dried aamras candies [kachha aam AND pakka aam] are must for me to bring when i visit India...it's also locally available here but the stock is usually old.

i also LOVE the layed slabs of** AMAAVAT**...so yum! :)
