Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

Not sure how much they will show in 2 hrs movie.

I wanna see how does the movie match with my imagination. :D

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

Agreed with Sehar. The action was quite slick in the novel so it would not have been THAT difficult a task for Ron Howard as compared to some other adaptations. I thank Sahar for recommending this book some two summers ago :-)

As far as movie anticipation goes, I would really hate it if they actually cut some important sequences but In a newsweek interview, I read that Ron Howard was quite adamant he wont be cutting any major event from the movie because they form the essence of Da vinci code. And trailors look fabulous. Cant wait!!!

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

Well, Tom Hanks was on Jay Leno lastnight (where they showed a clip of the movie where he was explaining the symbiology). I think he did fine in the movie. He is a fine actor :P

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

Why is Tom’s face so bloated :bummer: The professor in the book is supposed to be a good looking fella. I hope this movie is good. I am having some doubts. Plus I read Angels and Demons after The da Vinci Code and now the scenes from the two books are jumbled together in my brain :crying:

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

I just bought Angels and Demons......worried about getting confused too.
Maybe I'll put off starting it until I've seen the movie.

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

yeah don’t read it until after you’ve watched the movie. Otherwise you’d be confused as to which monk and pope goes where :bummer:

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

I will not watch this movie. Many catholics find it offensive. It's funny to watch muslims salivating at this "entertianing" movie but refuse to laugh at the "toons" -- if Muslims want others to respect their faith, they better start respecting others'.

This is a great opportunity for Muslims to reach out to the Catholics.

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

^ I read that indian muslims support the boycot of this movie in India!
I'm going to watch it because I want to compare the movie to the book.. am not going to watch it because of the controversie around it

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

God bless 'em!

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

I saw the clips... its looks wonderful

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

The toons were offensive and were published to humiliate the Prophet :saw: of Islam. Where this movie is based on a parallel theory of many tales surrounding Jesus’s personality spread by his own so called followers. Islam and Muslims are clear about his status. However, it challenges the ROMAN Catholic church and we all know what they have done to the religion of God. Remember its based on 90% of alteration and fabrications of Roman Empire and has nothing to do with Jesus.

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

ACHA!!!!!

I'd like to see how Sunni's would react to a "parallel theory" movie by Qadianis/Ahemids/Non-Sunnis about the Prophet's life.

Same claims can be made about Prop. Muhammad's life and political Islam that emerged out or Arabia.

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

eagerly awaiting for the release of this movie, I’ve read the book and really expecting alot from it.

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

You are right Luxury Item.

However I firmly believe that both Jesus and Mohammed pbut were Human being. I am not saying that the theory they are showing is correct. Its absolutely untrue, but my complaint is to those who are screaming now (Chatholics etc) and where were they when their ancestors ruined the religion of God (Trinity etc etc), the blashemous beliefs they invented in the name of Jesus and Almighty. They made Jesus God-like and now same people are crying since their false beliefs are dented by another falacy.

I hope you got my point. If the critism was coming from people who were still on right path and didn't make mass fabricatio in their scriptures and religion, it would have been have weight (in my opinion). But people who did the same thing in first 3 centuries of the religion and totally changed the concept of worship, have no excuse.

Lets put it this way, St. Paul changed the religion of God and re-wrote the whole ocean of Jesus's teaching and filled it with false beliefs. Brown came up with a book nullifying the whole basis of Jesus being God etc etc, proofs him a human being and having a blood line till today etc. What is the difference? Both theories are based on non-sense fiction. One destroyed the whole religion, followed by over 2.5 Billion people, other one making $$ from the sale.

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

Luxury Item does have a point. Muslims have a very short fuse and this has been debated many times here. The book Da Vinci code challanges the basic principles of Catholic teachings. Whether, we muslims agree with the book or the church, we should note the way church reacted to the book/movie and the way we react. The basic difference is that due to their history of persecution, roman church has to accept freedom of speech by the people, which includes freedom to mock and slander their core religious values. Muslims have never gone through that process nor tolerate anyone doing that.

Perhaps as a side bar, Dan Brown is an entertaining writer, Da Vinci Code was a fairly superb book to read and the movie will likely be great as well. Contrast that to the sub-par writing skills of Rushdie and the horribly difficult-to-read Satanic Verses. Had it not been the fatwa to kill Rushdie, the book will not generate any interest in mainstream literary circles. Even the cartoons in Danish newspapers were extremely unfunny and were just published to mock. In other words, very low quality stuff.

So while you can enjoy the book (Da Vinci code) and the movie even solely for their entertaining value, the book (Satanic Verses) and the cartoons do not need to be tolerated even for their scholastic/entertaining value.

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

Evangelical christians are planning to use this movie to spread their faith.

Here is a typical respponse:

“I think the Lord is going to use this film to bring more people to Christ, absolutely”

“Da Vinci” unites Indian Muslims and Christians](http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=topNews&storyID=2006-05-15T061839Z_01_DEL216789_RTRUKOC_0_UK-RELIGION-INDIA-DAVINCI.xml)

MUMBAI (Reuters) - A powerful organisation of Indian Islamic clerics promised on Monday to help Christian groups launch protests if the authorities did not ban the screening of the controversial film, “The Da Vinci Code”.

Protest in India against the film have so far been low key, but several Catholic groups have threatened to stage street demonstrations and even to shut down cinema halls screening it.
Now, powerful Islamic clerics have joined issue with Christians, saying “The Da Vinci Code” is blasphemous as it spreads lies about Jesus Christ.

“The Holy Koran recognises Jesus as a prophet. What the book says is an insult to both Christians and Muslims,” Maulana Mansoor Ali Khan, general secretary of the All-India Sunni Jamiyat-ul-Ulema, an umbrella organisation of clerics, told Reuters.

“Muslims in India will help their Christian brothers protest this attack on our common religious belief.”

Shabash! As if Indian muslims have nothing else to worry about, they are about to have sit-in and fasts with their Christian “brothers” to protest a movie. Masha Allah and Alhamdollilah.

What I find really curious is the comment by Maulana Mansoor Ali Khan where he says: “The Holy Koran recognises Jesus as a prophet. What the book says is an insult to both Christians and Muslims”. It makes me wonder it Maulana Khan even bothered to read the book, or is he just going by a synopsis given to him by a devoted yes-man. Its been a while since I read the book myself, but I don’t think the book suggests Jesus was not a prophet. It portrays a theory that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had kids. Its unlikely that this will strip him, Naozbillah, of his Prophetic abilities. If anything, the book refutes the god-like status given to Christ by the Roman Church, which uses the crucifiction and sacrifice by Christ to get its own power over the masses. To the best of my knowledge, Quran is silent on whether Jesus married or not. How do the Indian maulanas jumped from point A to point B on this one is really interesting. Its more a case of I-scratch-your-back-and-hopefully-you-will-scratch-my-back-when-I-have-an-itch.

Re: Da Vinci Code Movie (Release Date) Friday May 19 2006

^ Good analysis Faisal. This is where I differ with Luxury Item. I get his point and what is he trying to convey but I differ with him on the stance that there is no character assassination in Da Vinci code whereas we know about those toons, dont we?
