Rain stopped around midnight, water level is going down pretty fast. The storm has passed. There is one reported death. Property damage has not been anounced yet. The civil defence, army and police played a major role in saving lives.

Thanks. And you are right two shocks within a month. This was scarrier than the earlier one. Earlier only I was involved. This time wife and children were in danger and I was in a safe place. But thanks God everything turned out fine.

This one is all over. But fresh storms are developing in the arabian sea.

So far Karachi has been lucky! About 15 cyclone have been formed in the arabian sea since 1978 but none actually hit Karachi. The closed one was back in November 1993 which actually hit Karachi and Thatta but had already lost its strength. We had gusty mild winds and drizzling all the day then. (I was having my exam). That was probably November 22, 1993.

On May 20, 1999 worst cyclone hit the Badin and Thatta area of Sindh causing death of 500 people and displacing many.

I arrived in Muscat 3 days back and it is devastated. You can see vids on youtube and search "gonu". We are staying in a hotel apartment for the time being until the water and electricity is supplied in our area. 38 deaths reported so far.

So how did the evacuation of people work? Omanis and Europeans get luxury quarters far and safe from the path of the cyclone, while 3rd world citizens get put on a boat towards the cyclone?
