Severe Tropical Cyclone in Arabian Sea
Yesterday’s Tropical Cyclone named “PHET” (which is a Thai word
pronounced as Pet meaning “diamond”) in Arabian Sea has intensified into a Severe
Cyclonic Storm and moved in a northwesterly direction during the last 12 hours with a
speed of 6 Knots. It is now centered at 17°N - 61°E about 950 Km Southwest of Karachi.
Tropical Cyclone is likely to intensify further during the next 24 hours.** Initially it is
likely to move in a northwesterly direction close to the Oman coast and then expected to
recurve in northeasterly direction towards Pakistan coastal areas.**
Under the influence of this cyclone wide spread heavy rains associated with dust and thunder storms are expected in coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan. Sea conditions
along the Sindh-Makran coast are also expected to be rough to very rough during the
next 48 hours.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre of Pakistan Meteorological Department warned that
the** fishermen of Sindh and Balochistan who are in the open sea should return to the coast
immediately. All fishermen are advised not to venture in open sea till Saturday.**

I think its category 3 not 4. Right now its going to hit Oman, and will be reaching Khi Fri/Sat if goes in the same direction and speed. But Khi will be hit by sever thunderstorms from tomorrow, may be today.
May Allah keep everyone in his Amaan… I’m hoping the latest forecasts that have downgraded the severity of the cyclone continue in the same vein (i.e. the storm severity keeps getting downgraded), and there’s no loss of life as a result of the hurricane/storm - inshaAllah.

Well I am sitting in office and getting email regarding cyclone every hour .
Now I am scared ! I'll be buying quite a few tins of baby formula & cerelac for my little one on my way back to home today . Will buy a couple of grocery items too and might not go to work tomorrow.
You know, you guys wouldn't be joking if it was going to hit Lahore.
Everyone would be doing matham by now.
PCG, ppl are gathering near sea side to see how high waves look like :)
we trust Allah more than UN.. i think, instead of giving a pessimist remarks you could have easily contributed with some prayers for keeping us out of trouble..

May Allah help us and protect us Ameen.
aameen.. May Allah protect all of us and everyone else in the world..
And to be honest; what is more likely to cause havoc here is the poor storm drainage, which in the past, has caused rain water to flood into people’s homes; casualties from roofs collapsing in ‘kutchi abadis’, people being electrocuted from electric wires dangling off rickety poles and poorly mounted sign boards falling onto people at high winds… :hinna:
yup, me and and my cousin are planning to sneak out to seaview as well… Let’s hope we get to see a Big One !!!
As per the storm tracker, the forecast data shows that it'll turn into category 1 by 12:00 June 4th with a wind strength kts. Well, thats actually a better news cuz it'll be the time when its gonna be about to hit karachi. It'll be very stormy there but much less disastrous than it could be.
