Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

So what items did u buy for starting solids for ur baby?

I will start collecting them in some days so need ur suggesstions…

also tell me how many of them are required?

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

Well honestly speaking you just need soft plastic spoons.
i bought the cutllery set from mother care which included three bowls n three spoons n bought special avent steam blender though wth blender it came easy to steam n blend it but I figured out thts extra cost u can simply Boil on stove and thn blend in regular blender, again u can use any clean bowl , I don't think there is any need to buy separate bowls but again it's personal choice.

The only good thing wth blender was I to extra plastic avent bowls they were handy I can freeze some baby food in it n carry them outside also, but again u can use any small containers :)

I bought a set of plastic spoons and a set of plastic bowls when we first started solids.I used my regular blender and food processor and did not get anything extra or specially meant for the baby.

Then later I got 2 plastic plates, the ones which have tiny portions in the.She did not use them a lot.
Now when she is a lil above 2 years,we still use the plastic bowls for snacks etc but she eats in regular plates (Corelle) with us.The soft plastic spoons I initially bought were replaced by another fork and spoon set (stainless steel).

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

I would recommended to minimize the use of plastic as much as possible and as soon as possible especially when heating or storing baby food.

many v companies like Berber, avent are making baby products with better plastics.

I just used a small steel spoon and small cups from the dinner set we have. Didn't buy a single thing when starting solids.

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

Just used ceramic bowls. He was able to sit at the time and in my parents home we sit in the floor when.it is just family so usually Jr was sitting with us and we would mash whatever vegetable we were having and give him from our plates. We still do the same. But without mashing now

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

i have a baby plate and spoon set but he uses metal utensils at daycare so i've started using those now too. he honestly doesn't care- so long as there's food!

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

thanks everyone !
i thought there wd be so many things but many things r unnecessary....

i will try the mesh feeder also...

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

i went berserk buying cute things for when midget started solids.. the daycare frowned upon it and said he isnt a retard but a human baby that can learn to use regular crockery.. so mean... :( ... according to them, all these things baby stores sell are just to rip parents off by making them believe a baby needs all this.

really.. they dont need jack. just a soft tipped spoon when tehy start off..and when they get used to it eating.. move onto a regular spoon just smaller in size.

they dont use any plastic at all at daycares here.. kids handle glass plates, metal utensils and glass to drink milk or water. my heart was in my throat the entire time the kids were eating but not one dropped anything!

so she was right i guess... babies and toddlers arent retards.. news to me :D

also.. the more baby stuff u intro.. the longer it takes to get them off of those things and onto proper ways of dining, sleeping, etc

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

well i so agree wth u, huby do the same make her drink water from glass n make her eat from regular spoon n i m like ahhh it will hurt her n he is like stop it iss ko bara krna hai k nhi :( i think v mums r bit emotional

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

i like coming to parenting forum :phati:

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

devi.. we moms are the real retards.. in our mamta :D

i remmeber when i bought the mesh feeder my husband was shaking his head and saying.. give the kid a chance.. dont automatically assume it is brainless.. its born with a brain .. let it use it

lo and behold my son hated the mesh feeder... so my husband gave him fruits etc to hold and do as he pleases.. sure it went in his hair, his ear, his nose.. finally in his mouth.. he choked.. yes.. he did.. but then he learned how not to.

seriously... us moms need to have some faith in our babies and kids.. and when we dont,... should just shut up and listen to the daddies :D

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

i absolutely agree wth u khawa :k:

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

I have a munckin bowl and spoon set but I honestly don't like using plastic for her food. I still use the soft plastic spoons but prefer to use corelle or glass bowls.

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

plastic or rubber tipped spoons.

make sure you heat food in microwave-safe dish (if you microwave). don't microwave plastic.

Re: Cutlery n Utensils for Starting Solid Foods!

soft tipped spoons only. used it only for about 2-3 wks … she thinks they are toys :bummer:
she’ll eat with the metal spoons and play with the baby ones
she uses whatever we use, with exception of knives.
