"Customer is always right"

They say the customer is always right and you as a salesperson have to respect them and never argue back or give attitude, but sometimes I’ve seen customers just behaving really stupidly and taking advantage of this rule… and I think to myself, I could never behave the way that tehy do… and if I were the salesperson on the receiving end of their craziness, I’d find it really hard to control myself from answering back to them. I mean, I dont go into a store thinking I’m always right… and yes I’ll correct the salesperson if they’re over/under charging me, but I dont argue over silly things like my change being a penny short, or credit card minimums, or paying for delivery and all that… but I’ve seen others make a huge fuss out of the same things. I’ll never be able to understand it.

What kind of customers are you guppies like? Do you not care? Or do you stare at the computer screen while each item is being scanned, ask the prices, and tehn still go and study the receipt for ten hours? Do you argue a lot and give the salesperson/cashier a hard time or you just let things go?

Re: "Customer is always right"

Our company policy is very simple, customer is the king and a king can be replaced anytime with a better one.

^^ :rotfl: .. Good one

Re: "Customer is always right"

Riya i've been on opposite end (kind of), esp with desi business-owners some of them are just absolutely terrible and treat hte customers like crap. I think it goes both ways. As a customer i try to be nice as possible but sometimes if i'm having a bad day or something i'll be a lil rude :(

I'm always polite. the only time i may be a lil not so polite is if the
salesperson has no customer service skills AT ALL and is rude or snobby.
I have to deal with rude customers all the time, but there are some real nice ones too and they make up for it :)

Re: "Customer is always right"

What I hate the most is when I go up to a cashier and they don't even say a word and just start scanning the items. So I just say, Hi, how are ya? to them in the hopes that they will remember to say it to the next customer. Then after everything is done, I usually find myself saying, thank you, have a great day/night.

Re: “Customer is always right”

And uffff, the desi stores Sara.. I can go on and on. I hate going to NY with my parents for groceries because while the aunties are ringing up your items, forget hi or hello, they are either busy talking on their cell phones or to each other in punjabi or just yelling across the store to someone in the back :smack: They treat you as if they are doing you a favor or something.

Re: "Customer is always right"

bring out the guillotine i say

Re: "Customer is always right"

If you are not a monopoly in your line of business you cannot afford to not treat customer as a king. There is another company out there who has the motto that customer is the king and that company will be winner in the end.

ive noticed tht it’s usually the aunties who act this way. uncles who run the store are still somewhat nicer.

BUt the ppl at ISP are always nice! :balley:

Re: "Customer is always right"

I noticed customer service is a big thing in the US wherever you go, its soo different in the UK, especially in places like Harrods or Selfriges.

Re: "Customer is always right"

When I used to work at the store My bosses were a bad tempered couple. I loved them. I was allowed to kick any one out at any time. They were like "you are most important to us."
I did kick so many people out.
Our policy was never to take crap from any body. We were reason able to ppl and thats what wanted from them.
I miss working there.

Re: "Customer is always right"

^ did they kick u out too?

Re: "Customer is always right"

This is a very passionate topic for me.... I work at a call center, and we have customer's cussing us out left and right, you cant say ANYTHING to them. The most I say is im not speaking to you in that manner, DO NOT talk to me like that. We have some customer's that are bipolar and they call us when they get bored and just argue about stupid things. I know one day I will end up going crazy because of all this abuse.

Re: "Customer is always right"

Stand up for your self, and be assertive ...no matter which side of the fence u're on. If you let ppl treat u like dirt, then they assume perhaps u're it so they'll be walkin all over ya...

No They moved, Plus I started working in my own field.
