Curfew

^ This is the story of my life. My friends know to arrange dinner/movies, patio season gatherings or whatever on Fridays and Saturdays. And even then - I am a party pooper I need to be home by 1am latest because I'm dead tired. I end up yawning through the last hour or so and then to drive home (because of course you get together either downtown or mid-town which is a 35 to 50 minute drive.

Re: Curfew

i didn't even kno we had so many torontonians here

I HAVE to be in bed by 11:30/12am on weekdays. I am dead tired by that time. And not much interested in staying out late on weekdays. I like my rest. I am talking about Friday/Saturdays.

Good point.

It all depends on what you're used to and where you are. I used to be out until 2/3am when I was in downtown. In suburbs, where people are in bed by 6pm, obviously that time isn't good. But then, where we live, it is quite ok on the main street, where I get off the bus from. My place is about a minute and a half away from the bus stop, on a residential street. And the area itself is pretty safe.

So, midnight once or twice a week sounds ok to me.

precisely. with friends, etc, plans are only made for Friday/Saturday nights.

and like you said in another post, it just comes down to trust.

it's pretty simple. negotiate a reasonable curfew. and stick to it. call if you're going to be late. don't go to places or do things that your parents won't approve of... and you'll have their trust. simple.

wait so let me get this straight: you're coming from downtown TO to some burb (let's assume you're in 'sauga since 90% of pakistani population resides there) via a bus. not even a car. you're not even getting a ride. dude no wonder your parents want to implement a curfew on you! i took the GO bus and i'd be creeped out coming home by bus at 10:30 at night even though it would just be students from my uni coming off the bus.

Re: Curfew

holy crap u don't drive ... dudee ... i'd be super worried too if i was ur parent ... i think you're totally unreasonable

I agree with the posters above - coming home via bus that late doesn't make sense - why put yourself in a potentially dangerous situation?

Having a car is a safer option when you're going door to door by car, i.e. let's say the restaurant/patio parking lot to your own driveway. If I were walking 2 or 3 blocks to my car - I'd want a big strong guy friend to be walking me to my car or a group of a lot of girls.

My BIL used to say to me that living in Toronto, we have a false sense of security. He says just because we think this is a safe city - we should never take our safety for granted, Allah na karay, but anything could happen anywhere.

Lol. I take TTC. My bus is FULL of people. I live on a major route. It isn't as bad.

I don't. Who drives in downtown Toronto anyway? Lol @ me being "totally unreasonable."

My parents trust me to not be stupid. Their worries are usually regarding my safety.

Re: Curfew

dude ur not in downtown anymore ... so if ur not driving and complaining about coming late and them being worried ... then its totally understandable ... and dude people do drive in downtown ... TRUST me

Re: Curfew

actually the car thing is quite a good point. my parents would never let me go into central london at night on public transport. i usually drive or one of my mates does. it feels much safer to go by car and my parents dont worry as much

I drive downtown from the 'burbs when I’m going out in the evenings. :chai:

I pay the fortune in parking just to have the peace of mind about how I’m getting home.

Re: Curfew

taking TTC at 12 or 1 or whatever is even worse IMO. and as far as i know, there really isn't a TTC route that goes straight to the 'burbs. So yeah, again, no wonder your parents want to implement a curfew on you. Someone who's 22 should have realized this by now.

Wow, eh. Insults now?

You clearly don't know about Toronto's suburbs that ARE TTC accessible.

Good for you. Doesn’t quite work like that for me. Saturdays are the only days I especially step out to hang out. Most days, it is after work and I catch TTC to work and back.

Re: Curfew

except for etobicoke, i have yet to learn of any 'burb that is TTC accessible. and no thorncliffe doesn't count as a 'burb. and no i wasn't being insultive, i was merely stating a fact.

Dude, you're wrong. Accept it.

You jumped to conclusions that I live in a non-TTC accessible area and that if I don't know that, I am too stupid for my parents to live peacefully without imposing curfews on me.

My point: quit jumping to conclusions, without 'facts'.

Re: Curfew

no ones jumping to conclusion curious lady ... everyones just saying that go has a much better reputation than ttc and even go use to get weirder late at nite so u can just imagine how bad ttc gets ... and being a grl whoz 22 ... u shldn't be taking a bus that late at nite anyways ... and ur parents are right to worry about u ... it doesn't matter if its ttc mississauga transit or brampton transit for that matter

Re: Curfew

Uh can I butt in?

I take public transportation late at night very often (a few times i've come home past midnight). Never ever ever had any issue. I've been to TO and I can honestly say, NYC has a much worse reputation for safety than TO does.

no u can not butt in ... i'm just kidding. All I am saying is that you don't have to wait until something bad happens to stop doing something. Its like since I've never been shot at in Pakistan for however long I lived there means that pakistan is safe.

You don't have to wait till something bad happens. There are stories of sketchy things happening on specially ttc and there is a reason behind those stories. I have had odd chances of being on bus late at nite and its weird to be honest and weird people are on the bus. So if your parents are concerned I wouldn't blame them. If it was my sister on the bus i'd be worried too.
