I wanted to do something special for this Valentines day even though my husband isn’t here. I made a cupcake bouquet for my work people. Here are the photos.
A few tips for anyone who wants to make it.
-Try to ice the cupcakes after making the bouquet. It’s easier to push them into the styrofoam ball without getting icing all over your fingers.
-Put something heavy in the vase/jar before putting the styrofoam ball on top. I learned this the hard way and had to remove the cupcakes/ball to put a candle in to keep it steady.
-Use hot glue gun to attach the styrofoam to the vase/pot/jar. Tape does not work very well, especially when the ball becomes heavy after all the cupcakes go on.
i saw green styrofoam balls at michaels so i bought that. it’s really hard to push down on the cupcake with the icing on especially when they are so close together. i also found that just putting a couple of toothpicks on the styrofoam and pushing the cupcake on it was not enough to hold it in place. i poked the third toothpick in the middle of the cupcake all the way into the styrofoam to make it more secure. that’s another reason why icing should be put on after the cupcake’s already on. the bottom ones are holding up very nicely with this trick.
also make sure you either use a heavy vase or put something heavy in it. mine was a $1 tin bucket thingi from the dollar store and it’s so light in weight that after a couple of cupcakes it started to tip over. i had to take everything out and put a candle in it (the only heavy thing i could find that would fit). if you could get a rock that would work too. also try and wear thick gloves to push toothpicks into the ball. it’s harder than it looks in the video. my fingers are all sore from pushing in all the cupcakes. it was worth it in the end though because it looks even more amazing in real life and everything came up to under $20.
i was just googling some other people’s cupcake bouquets, they have used popsicle sticks as they are sturdier. I might make it tonight to take it to my mum’s place.. but i’d transport the cupcakes seperately and attach and ice them at her place
