Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

You guys are awesome, thank you all for your advice, I'm going to run through ALL of these with my ma and see what we come up with... I'm leaning towards edible treats and that M&M's idea sounds so gooood! I went to a wedding in Summer 08, they had canape's & drinks served before the dinner and I didn't get a chance to get any, so when we got to the dining area our favour boxes with chocs were waiting and boy did they go down a treat. I thought it would be nice to do for my own wedding... Everyone was popping the chocs before the meal, it was a great ice-breaker and put a smile on everyones faces :)

i dunno where you are getting married but you can have a candy bar (certain vendors in bigger cities in america tend to offer it) and it comes with small chinese take out boxes in diff colors, and diff colored jellybeands, chocolates, and so forth. It also has a candy bartender that way guests can have help if needed, ask questions about waht to try and to keep the kids from running a muck of the thing.

Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

^ That sounds like fun!

Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

and super cheap if you get lovely glass jars from the dollar store or walmart and buy the candy in bulk. you can buy candy all in one color to coordinate with your theme and make little notices to hang around the jars so people know what kind of candy it is.
the only place i can see this falling apart/out of control is when there are a lot of kids. then they just wreak havoc on the candy bar, go on a massive sugar-fuelled rampage, and generally destroy things, the little buggers :p

Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

Hey why don’t u get assorted chocolate bars make customized labels (from ur personal colored printer) and glue the labels on top of the bars u can buy these but why pay for them when you can make them and have someone help u with them...on the day of the wedding have someone from your side distribute them in a fancy tray or basket.

Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

^ getting them made is not so expensive, i think, and when you factor in the cost of the sticker labels for your printer plus the time involved... it might just be worth it!

Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

well u dont really have to use labels you can use regular printer paper with just some colored ink and glue its ends onto the bars each paper makes 2-3 "labels" depending on the size of the bar. It may also be worth if getting made. I'm just really into doing things like that on my own!! =)

Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

^ i hear ya!

i'm in the UK, i have to do some research to see if anyone provides this... :) I'd love to have a candy bartender present cos my cousins are sugar-nuts :) and would wreck havoc.

Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

make an older cousin a candy bartender!

Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

i love the candy bar idea !!! especially since no one in my areas done that stuff before. Its great but my problem would be the KIDS!
I wanted a Mr. & Mrs. thing for everyone and no kids but my parents dont agree to that thinking its rude, since i have brothers of my Own. Moreover the candy thing im sure requires many lbs of candy?

Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

I posted this link earlier in the thread, but I’ll post it again; great resource for candy buffet: How Sweet It Is: Building the Candy Buffet of Your Dreams

Churiyan are nice! If anyone does this though, i hope they make sure htey get diferent sizes, esp if theres alot of young girls. you dont want to make them feel excluded or left out for no reason..

Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

I know i was thinking of the whole couples only event too having kids at a wedding is kind of nerve wrecking...my cousins wedding about 2 yrs ago was almost a disaster bc the kids wouldnt leave the big wedding cake alone they kept on poking their tiny fingers in the cake and double dipping and it wasnt just one kid it was a whole gang and they were taking turns. No one even stopped them from poking thier finger and the way they were leaning on the table the cake couldve fallen easily. I was getting furious just by looking at it and thinking if this was my wedding and the kids were doing that i would go crazy and forget about having a candy bar/buffet if the kids get to that they sure will be runing wild bc of the sugar. I wish i can have couples only but it wont seem right my mom says, but if you think about it the way things are going with the economy and all the # of guests invited to the wedding should be limited. i am planning my wedding and im pretty sure im going to have a candy bar/buffet

Re: Wedding Favors/Favours

hire babysitters, ladies! its not hard to find them (i used craigslist to find mine), and you can specify that they have CPR certification (to be safe) and loads of previous experience as nannies/childminders.
you can set up a separate area for the kids to hang out in- mine was in a garden so they just took them out of the tent and away a bit but within sight/reach of the parents.
mine were both nurses! i guess they were looking to make some easy money. i had 7 kids under 10 so i hired two sitters. they brought along all the supplies needed to keep the wee ones busy and entertained- they sang, played games, colored. everyone had a good time- the parents, the kids, and me!
