Dear guppies…a friend of mine is thinking about marrying with first cousin but is worried about repercussions of cousin-marriage as proclaimed by medical scientists.he is in dire need of some advice on this issue .serious debate is here anticipated .

...this cousin can take his intended to a "geneticist" and they can determine exactly what risk they face. It actually is not as bad as people used to think that is unless there has been much in-breeding within the line. But a geneticist will uncover all of that and tell them exactly what risk they face amd what maladies they may produce (if any). That said...you never know yeah? I'm a gori, married a desi. My hubby's bro married his first cousin.
My neice and nephew are fine ...but I have mildly autistic boys. I'm not saying I'd have things any differently because I wouldnt change a thing about any of my boys... I just want to point out that modern science has limitations and well, just do what YOU think is right for YOU.

Indeed breeding within close relations is known to weaken species over time. The risk is especially high if there is a genetic disorder in the family as it makes future generations many more times likely of the genetic disorder. My advice is they get screening for disorders and ask doctors opinion. Shouldnt be too bad, my parents are first cousins and Im pretty healthy...

By the way, I have seen a lot of my cousins getting married to their cousins, and so far alhamdulilah my niece/newhews are fine.

No it is not a good idea medically, especially if it is his first cousin... as i have seen kids with a few problems....and genetic defects...

man can never play God.... the trust should be solidly put in Allah only...and one should hope for the best ... the chances of defects are more if cousin marraiges take place in more then 2/3 generations...rest Allah knows the best !!!

I have seen at least 2 times serious child problems in first-cousin marriages. In Western societies, it will be considered incest.

Like Mama said, you can never ever know for sure.. marriage between first cousin may have healthy kids and marriage between "strnagers" may give you unhealthy kids..
