Pakistani, Somalian, Turk, Uighers, Bosnians, Saudis - all have the same religion (Muslim), but still are all very very different from each other.
What really defines them is their country, their culture, their language, their food, clothing, history, and to some extent religion.

What do you think.
if you go to hajj you will see it is the Islam that unites the muslims and the passport and borders that divide them.
I asked this question, because only Pakistani's somehow feel 'religion' alone binds them to all muslims.
They would go to the extreme extent - even if it is weakening & destroying Pakistan.
The rest of the muslim, christian, buddhist or aethist china (even Hindu Nepal) - follow their own countries "national interests" first & foremost.
USA even attacked Serbia (Christians) to defend Bosnia (muslim)
I don't think one thing can 'define' us unless we implement it so much in our lives that we become a living embodiment of it. Islam defined the prophet Muhammad pbuh, because he was the living form of the religion, I don't think many people can claim that.
Maybe culture, religion, political views can become a huge part of our lives but we;re multi faceted creatures so I disagree with you.
Also the point about Muslims weakening Pakistan, well Pakistan came about to strengthen Islam so surely this means the welfare Islam takes precedence over the welfare of Pakistan?

Yes it was created to be an Islamic state, a place where Muslims could practice their faith freely. It was as much a religious move as it was a political one.
Then again I saw you refer to Richard Dawkins in another post so I'm pretty sure anything I say will be futile. No offence obvs.

Only the part in bold, not the rest.
What's wrong with referring to Dawkins? Must have been in the Einstein thread and that's coz he had Dawkins had explained it pretty well. His arguments are very powerful, but would you rather pretend that he doesn't exist?
What defines us, is one of the most important issues facing each & every country.
Once this is settled - there is peace & prosperity.
In Pakistan, there is a 'crisis of identity' - some speak of Jinnah's secular pakistan, some say since pakistan was created on religion.
Religion takes priority on everything - form of government, sharia law, blasphemy.
From there, religion than takes another form - is being Sunni, the only real muslims. If so, what are Shia's? and so forth & so on.
Do we realize that many shabas were from different colours and backgrounds. Hazrat Bilal was from Ethiopia , Hazrat Salman was of Persian decent, Hazrat Suhaib was from Rome and Hazrat Abu Zar from Gifar ... It was only Islam , which was common among them ..
And how could , as a Muslim , we forget this famous hadees ...
“The Muslim Ummah is like one body. If the eye is in pain then the whole body is in pain and if the head is in pain then the whole body is in pain”
This is what Allah and his Rasool ( PBUH) Said ... But you are free to make your mind :)

Is this why some muslims are attacking the other sects?

Yes, I agree there should be unity among Muslims. But unity among the Pakistanis takes precedence over that. We are PAKISTANIS and therefore, for us, Pakistan's interests come first and only then that of Islam or other Muslims.

You are right. Problem with us is that we try to Unite Muslims of foreign lands as Umma but when it comes to get united, we are far apart even in our own colony. We fight for everything, even the time of Aajaan in various masjids is different in our cities. We are poor and uneducated people who are fruitlessly tyring to find solace in religion. We forget that religion is not the panecea for our backwardness and poverty, in fact it is the real cause for all our ills. We foundly read Quaran but never follow it. We learn all the hadith but never practice it. We are nation of greedy ppl who keep on asking Allaha to give us but fail to offer anything to him.
