Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

I think he is backing what SC has been saying for quite sometime that dual nationals do not deserve to hold public offices. However, having said that what about Pakistanis who live outside Pakistan and want to exercise their right to vote? Isn’t it really unfair that they cant really vote in the upcoming elections?**

LAHORE: Speaking on the issue of politicians holding dual nationalities Chief Election Commisisoner (CEC) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim said on Friday that the country needs “pure Pakistanis” as its representatives and that “half-Pakistanis” were not needed.
**Ebrahim, speaking to the media in Lahore, said, “This is a defining moment for the country. If free and fair elections won’t be conducted then we won’t have the ‘new Pakistan’ that we want.”

He said that the only task that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has “from 5am to 12am” is to deliberate over how free and fair elections could be conducted. Ebrahim said that a lot of mistakes were made in the past and that it was time to improve.

“The ECP has summoned a meeting on October 19 to decide what to do on the issue of dual nationality. We were the first ones to disqualify parliamentarians, holding dual nationalities. Now that the Supreme Court is also looking into the matter, it has further strengthened this case. This matter if of high importance”

He said that the parliament “was upset” over how some politicians were disqualified for holding dual nationalities. “We sought information from some of them, but they refused to cooperate.”

Ebrahim expressed dissatisfaction over the media coverage done on the voters list and said that the media “misquoted figures”.

“The newspapers run stories saying that hundreds of thousands of voters’ name were not included in the voters’ list … I say, take at least one or two thousand names which you think are not there in the list to prove it.”

The CEC said that it was the responsibility of the election commission to compile voters’ list, however, the politicians, media, the civil society and voters were also responsible for it.

“If your name is not there in the list then you should get yourself registered, now that the process has become so simple and you can register yourself through your computerised national identity card.”

He also dispelled rumors about any intervention from the Presidency, saying that there never was and never will be any intervention from the Presidency.

Dual nationality:

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

I am confused over two grand facts. First that what Fakhru bhai is saying is absolutely correct, it's going to be a make-or-break elections. Secondly, I have serious doubts about the collective wisdom of Pakistan's electoral college. The million-dollar question is will we be back to March 2008 after March 2013 elections?

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

I am a dual citizen. But I endorse Fakhru Bhai statement.
For a better democracy, do vote regardless its for crooks or dry cleaned.

Collective decision of a nation is always better then concise of few. Pakistan don't need more leaders we need more clean and timely elections.

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

Even when over half of that "collective decision" comes from those who neither understand sanctity of vote nor are allowed to vote freely?

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

Yeah it's good not to hv dual nationality holders on our political system..

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

great logic.

is there anywhere in the world uneducated & poor people are not allowed to vote? humor me.

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

is raaz ko ik mard-e-farangi nay kiya faash
harchand ke daana issay kholaa nahi kartay
jamhooriyat ik tarz-e-hakoomat hay kay jis maiN
bandoon ko gina kartay hain, tolaa nahi kartay

we need a weighted count, i dont know how, but we just need it... the currnet akar bakar bambay bo is not gonna work.

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

What does weighted count mean?

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

Is there anywhere in the world where 'shaheeds' are more important than the living ones?
Is there anywhere in the world where criminals are elected heads of states?
Is there anywhere in the world where thrones of political parties are passed on through will papers?
Is there anywhere in the world where voters vow to cast votes to even lampposts and threes if they have party tickets?

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

A madressah hafiz will have twice the vote as compared to a university graduate.

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

Oh ok.

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

He is ridiculing people with dual nationalities and questioning their patriotism only to please Iftikhar. Pakistan is in abyss because of people he calls "full" Pakistanis. It's a non issue to me.

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

^ does iftikhar mea patriotism?

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

Why should dual nationals run the country is the question.

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

how cute : ) you two look awesome playing together...

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

I have great respect for FGE & to extent I agree with him, but I'm kind of offended by him calling us "half-Pakistanis". To full Pakistanis, I say us "half-Pakistanis" don't want to represent you internally in politics, but if full-Pakistanis were half as hardworking, honest and and educated as the halfs... Pakistan could be South Korea or Singapore today. Just sayin'.... ;)

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

^ it was a serious question. Never came across the phrase weighted count wrt election before. Post 15

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

get this supriority complex out of yourself bro.

You (not you personally , i am addressing any self-praising half pakistanis) didn't do **** yourself, you just leech on to the system of the goray and their forefathers who built their countries and system to such an extent that the likes of you can go and work. You didn't build those countries, you merely eat the paki pakaai kheer.

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

thats why i said "i dont know how" in the very same post you are referring to.

and if you read the first part of the post, that is if you could understand what Allama Iqbal is trying to say there, you will get the idea.

for starters like me, it means that a university professor, a seasoned business man, technologist, an experienced statesman, an agriculture expert, an economist, an aalim, a labour union leader... they all should have their say weighted as compared to other equally important members of society in their respective domains. a villager bought out for few thousand rs, or a citizen of a large metropolitan bought for his life by no means stand at par to the people mentioned above. an economist choosing candidate-A for his policy, while a 5-party-loyals voting for candidate-B is recipe of disaster....

i dont know how you could implement the “weighted-count”, its job of the intelligentsia of our society, my job is to raise the concern where i think i should, and i'll keep doing that.

Re: Country does not need half-Pakistanis as representatives: Fakhruddin G Ebrahim

Votes of two "half pakistanis" should count as one?
