Countries & their Cars

I was trying to find out what are all the different car maker companies & their country of origin. I confess that I have very little knowledge about cars, so please feel free to correct me or add to the list.

USA:
GM [GMC, Oldsmobile, Saturn]
Chevrolet
Ford
Dodge Chrysler
Cadillac

Germany:
Mercedes
Volkswagen
Volvo
Audi

Japan:
Toyota & Lexis]
Honda & Acura]
Subaru
Suzuki
Isuzu
Mazda
Mitsubishi

Koi project karr rahay hein aap?

Volvo is Swedish, I think. Plus many companies have changed ownerships and moved their production facilities around, so its kinda hard to pin point the country. Anyway, here are a few more. I am just giving some mainstream car companies. Otherwise, there are many boutique car companies, like Seelan (US)

Sweden:
Volvo (now owned by Ford)
Saab (now owned by GM)

Germany:
BMW
VW
Audi
Daimler-Chrysler (makers of Mercedes-Benz)

UK:
Rover (car business now owned by BMW, I think)
Rover (SUV business now owned by Ford, I think)
Rolls Royce (now owned by BMW)
Bentley (now owned by VW)
Mini (now owned by BMW)
Jaguar (now owned by Ford)

Korea:
Kia
Daewoo
Hyundai

Italy:
Fiat
Alfa Romeo

France:
Citreon

GM (US) produces many brands.. including Pontiac, Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, Saturn, Buick, Oldsmobile, Hummer etc.

Chrysler was purchased by Daimler (Mercedes) a few years ago. Their four brands in the US are/were Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth and Jeep.

Ford, the second largest car company in the world (and soon to be third) owns Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin.

By the way, Audi and VW is the same company (VW owns Audi).

In sports cars, Ferrari and Lamborghini are Italian and Porsche is German.

ahmedjee here are a few more car companies, will let u find their countries of origin

peugot
renault
maserati
TVR
daihatsu
Lotus
infiniti
proton

Ok, I was hoping people will be at each other's throat trying to prove which country really owns which cars.

Anyway, for the longest time I thought Subaru was Australian because of the crocodile Dundee’s in its commercials.

And another surprise was Porsche being Italian. I always thought they were German. Oh well.

Is infiniti French? And is Mazda not really Japanese? And is Land Rover different than Rover?

Who says Porsche is Italian? :p

And Infinity was the rich cousin of Nissan (although lately its becoming more of a brother). Its 100% Japanese and is the luxury brand of Nissan. Just as Accura is for Honda and Lexus is for Toyota (who now also has a student wing called - Scion)

Mazda is Japanese, but is now owned by Ford. Their SUV, Tribute is built in the same plant as Ford Escape.

peugot - French
renault - French
maserati - Italian
TVR - No idea - proly British.
daihatsu - Japanese
Lotus - British
infiniti - Japanese
proton - Malaysian

hehehe, well that can get complicated, its not just a question of who owns who, but who is an investor in who.

lotus would be malaysian..
infiniti/nissan would be frech, due to the whole renault connection
mitsubishi would be err german due to daimler's stake in the automaker

you can then go down a stap and see how diff car companies actually rebadge other companies cars under their own baner. case in point, volva s40 which the basically a mitsubishi charisma, in past u had GEO which had storm..same as isuzu impulse, honda passport which was the same as isuzu rodeo etc.

its an interesting world my friend

Heres a little bite out of history.

Around the turn of the century Benz was a german car company that wasn't faring too well. It needed a boost in sales to stay competitive. And just so a French businessman happened to pass by who gave them an order for 500 cars. Which eventually saved the sinking ship and kept Benz afloat. In order to show their gratitude, the Benz motor company decided to add the French businessman's grand daughter's name to their company. Hence the name Mercedes-Benz.

Some interesting facts

Indian desinger dilip chabria designs new shapes for some top notch companies. Recent being da geneva motor show.

If there is any other car manufacturer or a specific model that needs to be clarified, go ahead, throw it, I'll make sure its rightly answered

Diamler & chrysler merged around 8 years back. Now Diamler is under immense pressure to break off, due to da simple reason that chrysler is not bringing revenue. This can be attributed to da fact that some folks ditched buying chrysler becoz a German company bought an american company. Feelings of none other than jews were hurt.

U brought back old memories my dear friend.

As far as korean & indian cars r concerned, I wud not call them cars, they r just rip offs. These companies have started wid da help of other companies.

Although Aston martin & a couple of other supercars r designed by an Indian.

Daimler. Its Daimler. :)

^^ :rotfl: me & my diamler…alright its a typo, sorry…

No problem. I checked out Saleen 7 during the autoshow. Good specs though the car's styling is very typical.

They even modify da mustang in a special version called Saleen Mustang. Dang its sooooooooooo wild...but if there is a real american car in history it was Ford GT40, they produced the Ford GT90 but it never went into production.

If u see my list, I included a car under US. It is going be da fastest supercar produced from USA.

Mal1k - when you say Infiniti & Lexus are "Produced in US"...you mean they are made in US or just sold in US with that name?
