I’m not even two posts old here and I need a favor from you guys, ummm…actually two!

To begin with, I’m looking for a couplet in Urdu from the parents’ point of view at the farewell/ wedding of their daughter to be written in the opening of an invitation card!

And secondly, there’s this pic of a sharara that I wish to be reviewed…I am not too good with understanding trends et al and am quite a diffident soul when it comes to dressing up, or rather dolling up…lol…Since there’s much difference between the tastes of Indian and Pakistani people, any kind of criticism would be okay but I really need an honest n a ‘detailed’ reply!

well it’s a matter of personal taste par mujhe yeh circular designs ache nahin lagte (snowflakes on the gharara in your picture…is it gharara or lehnga?) but apart from that i think it’s kind of purttty

what’s the colour of the shirt and dupatta

It's the same, maroon in color! Our oldies don't permit us to wear anything except red or it's hues, forget trying shaded or multi colored wedding dress! Btw, what does Purty mean? None of my Oxford fellas are able to help me!

Usually an Ayat related to marriage is written on the wedding card. Here is poem but no sure how will it look on a card:

That was a beautiful poem ..

And as for the sharara, I.giggles have already bought it! It looks quite good in reality, maybe it's not photogenic...lol! It has all zardozi work done on it and the shimmer of the entire work isn't that noticeable perhaps!

But I'd be happy to know your opinion, whatever it is!

^Hey Gulnaar, what do you class as zadozi work? coz i don't think i can see any. to me it looks like thread, sequins, possibly beads and some stone work (although in this pic it's not giving the look of glass stones/crystals).
It does look like Indian work. Is that correct?

Yes indeed, I was looking for a sher and the geet Mahi posted was so good that I'd even contemplated editing it but the entire thing is so heart touching that none of my journalistic skills could help me!

But why don't you post your own piece of work, Usman? Whether it's great or not is something we'll be deciding!

haha! This song reminds me of a spoof-y (if that's a word?) line I'd sung as a kid for one of my eldest cousin...it went, " Dabur ki dawaayein leti jaa, jaa tujhko pati bimaar mile; Maike ki hamesha yaad aaye, sasural me itni maar mile!!"

Well, it's very much Indian!

Pardon my ignorance but I'm such an Alice-in-wonderlandic soul that I really lack knowledge of all the terms you used! I can't even claim that Pakistani zardozi work is different from ours..but it's quite a heavy thing (the designer claims both the dupatta n the sharara weighs almost 10 kgs!!!)
and genuinely speaking (not defending at all) it looks much much better in real!

Lol, no problem.

I do like white on red. What matters most is that you like it! It’s difficult to tell how something will look until it’s stitched (in terms of style).

Speaking purely about the work. Pakistani work and Indian work are very different, so I wouldn’t like to compare. Oftentimes, as long as the overall the look of the work is effective, it doesn’t really matter what has been used.

Zardosi work in Pakistan is when metal based materials have been used in the kaam. So work containing dabka, naqshi, kora (antique dabka), or metal wire thread work, would be termed zardosi.
