I guess I'll just stop posting then. The point was supposed to be to agree to a minimal cost of living gracefully in Pakistan and not surviving on the handouts of friends and family.

Not to offence or anything and jokes aside, you may not realise it yourself, but while I was reading all your posts you remined me of the person who said: 'if there is no bread, let them eat cake' :|
Because of your comment I went back to read all posts. And I'm sorry you do offend. Because I do not mention anything to this regard.
Thanks though for wandering in to insult.

Clothes last 6 months to 2 years ... So let's say replacements are needed every year.
No leaky roof
A toilet that takes the waste away from the property and out of sight.
A working ceiling fan
Do you think they need a freezer (coz fridge doesn't keep stuff cold in summer) or no?
In my experience (and I wear desi clothes all the time at home, and I don't have new casual clothes made every year) clothes don't last as long in Pakistan because of much more wear and tear. If you're keeping 1 outfit as a 'nice' one I'm sure you need more than 2 everyday outfits.
If you have kids, they keep growing out of clothes.
10 K for one live in servant - No live-in servant. That's a luxury and frankly out of the question in cramped city apartments. Maid comes in - 1-1.5K.
20 K for petrol - Use a bike or two. 6k INR
10K per month for each child's schooling. 3K per month can get you into a pretty good school. As far as I know, even Delhi public school does not cost 10K a month.
10-15K electric bill 7K. 5K is more than sufficient even allowing for air-conditioners.
5K water and gas and cable 3K. Cable/Internet 1.5K. Water/Gas Another 1.5 = 3K.
25 K random- Random expenses 5-7K.
total 33K.
You'd need about 10k savings, I'd say - children's higher education etc. So 43k.
If you rent, you can live in a decent suburban 2 bed apartment for 10K. So 53k.
"
Humare zamanay mein - we did not have a lady come in to do housework till ~ 20 years of my parents'marraige, we did not have any vehicle, father had a bicycle which he rode to station took train, we folks walked to school. So what is with the peetrol shetrol expense?
.
That's right. Use the school bus. My cousins only got a scooty much later when they went to uni.
if all your values are in INR then you just need to convert to PKR, therefore your final of 33K INR is around 60 PKR.
Can't vouch for Pakistan, but for India
25 K for groceries - 5K INR

43K INR is 76K PKR
53 K INR is around 94K PKR
And the values I gave for house, live in servant , petrol, etc etc all those you used to work with are actually projected estimates of what @Seb was spending with his quoted value of 150K PKR per month comfortable living.
I think you need at least 50-60PKR monthly to live comfortably/gracefully minimum per month in Pakistan. Agree with Naabigh's calculations.

Umm.. 94k sounds like a lot already..but I guess when you break up the expenses it's not really that overblown as an estimate.
Plus, the currency factor. The 60K PKR is beginning to sound really reasonable.:)
haha, :) yeah it looks reasonable on breakdown doesnt it.
cost of living has gone up, that's all I've been saying from the beginning.
Anyway thanks for your input, you put a lot of thought into it :). I just wanted to convert your INR to PKR for the sake of standardising and making comparisons with the estimates given by others as well.

You can sleep happily tonight you where right all along.

I had some folks tell me if you walk in Karachi you will get mugged. While I have never been to Pakistan, I have seen plenty of people walking ont streets - it is a mindset thing.
As for public transportation, I have no doubt every city has public transportation. While individual tickets may be expensive. monthly passes should bring the cost down.
IMHO, we should make do with what we have. Cheers!
