It’s not the word - it’s how it’s used I guess … In the late 70s and early 80s there were a lot of hate crimes against Asians in the UK and they were all called “Pakis” and treated badly too … as a result there has been a reaction against that designation … As I was growing up … I tried to use reason to explain that those who were calling me Paki were only saying that I was pure and clean … So I used to say “Well does that make you a Dirty?” That used to confuse them for a few seconds each time.
