Do they own the house or renting it. Because the way I have seen in karachi 6 1/2k is not enough for a couple forget about school going children and all.
Re: Cost of Living and salary...
renting a two bedroom in shabby location will cost around 8 to 10 thousand and average salary is 5k for a bachelor, granted experienced folks might piece together a 11 to 16 k depending on kismet . but its hard to get by on bachelors without already owning a residence.
Re: Cost of Living and salary...
For India you should ask the indian friends, there are few of them around, they of course can provide you better info.
For Pakistan, I would like to know a little bit more before I can tell you something.
1) Is person gonna live alone? or family (wife & children)?
2) if married & family moving, then how old the children are?
3) What kind of schools do u want the children to go?
4) Even though you said apartment, are u prepared to do cleaning/washing urself? or need a maid?
5) How many times a year the person wants to fly out Pakistan ?
The list can go on, but these five are the basic ones. Then I can tell in better why how much salary is decent in Lahore or Islamabad.
A single person, can happily survive (with decent living) in Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 30,000 if living in his own place. If living with parents, then Rs.12,000 can be enough (no rent to pay).

Re: Cost of Living and salary...
Educated group do ok in Pakistan... People working in telecom industry seem to be doing relatively well these days from what I can tell... Uneducated gents just tend to work hard and get by on whatever they can.
Re: Cost of Living and salary...
In a 2 tier city like Lucknow, which unlike most of UP is pretty good, I think 10000 INR will be fine. For quite decent living it will be about 15-20K.
Median salary for a good college grad in Lko will be 10000+.
But then if you want to eat out frequently and go to movies often (etc) then 20K is what you will need.
Maintain a car as well, then minimum 25-30K will be needed. Forget of all the entertainment and going to restaurants
Re: Cost of Living and salary...
Everywhere one goes the educated set make a go of it, and the rest suffer. Tis the way of the world.

Re: Cost of Living and salary...
responses from pakistanis will be misleading to you.
the indian rupee is 50% more valuable than the pakistani rupee.
that is a big difference if you are trying to get a feel for a budget.
