Cost estimate wedding zewar

Hello all
its been way too long since ive been to pakistan, i wanted to ask those guppies in pakistan & those who have just had their wedding, what is the average cost nowadays of a wedding set ? im looking for a set with the necklace, earrings, tikka but no jhumar…and im leaning more to the kundan/polki setting…from good jewelers…any input is appreciated!!! thank you!!!

Re: Cost estimate wedding zewar

does it not depend on the tola of the gold? i think it's something like ÂŁ180 a tola

My In-laws just got me a beautiful set from Pakistan. It has a Tikka, Necklace , and earings, the wholeset also has beadwork. Its a pretty heavy set. The gold has a rustic look to it and has a shade of purleish pinkish to it which makes it look nicer....The set was around $4,000, and was bought in Rawal Pindi. Thats pretty expensive for a set I'm only going to wear once in a blue moon........

Re: Cost estimate wedding zewar

nowdays tolaah (this is about 11 gram something) about 24.000rps...

it really depens on the weight of ur set.. if u uses stones.. what kind of stones... how much gold is used.. and of course the making of the jewelers... its really different.. but i think for a bridal set u can estimate about 2-3lakhs this days...

Re: Cost estimate wedding zewar

^ Hmm yeah.... I would think somewhere around the 2 lakh range as well.

Re: Cost estimate wedding zewar

its really what twinkle said, depends on the amount of gold, the quality of gold, the stones and the making charges. i bought my set 3 months ago and the whole set necklace, bangle, earrings, tikka, khumar all in cost a lil over 4 lakh. and its a pretty small set. its not a long necklace its almost like a choker with rubies, amethysts and tourmalines i think the reason it cost more than other sets that size was cuz it had a lot of gold in it. they had thick gold plates to hold the stones since they were big.

i think a decent wedding set would cost around 2 lakh these days usually without the tikka and jhumar and i would recommend brides to get gold plated tikka and jhumars cuz u will probably not wear those two things ever again.

Re: Cost estimate wedding zewar

and that excludes the churiyan! Which are also pricey as you usually get 8 or more and they tend to be heavy. The churiyan alone would be well over 1 lakh. I remember I bought one kundan kara during the wedding shopping and it was 1.1 lakh alone.

Re: Cost estimate wedding zewar

also if u r buying polki sets in pakistan make sure u take someone who can tell the difference between real and fake because I'm sure they will try to sell u fake polki if they get the idea that u have no clue what real polki looks like. Real polki is also very pricey my aunts polki bridal set cost around 4 lakh just the necklace and earrings about 3 years ago.

Also be careful when u r buying kundan sets. When gold jewelry is made with kundan, jewellers MUST use this material called " laqh" in the set and then they have a coating of 24 karat gold ( and only 24 kt) on top. All that is done to secure the kundan. So when u buy kundan sets the jeweller should take the weight of the laqh out instead of including it in the gold weight. Otherwise u would be paying gold prices for worthless metal inside. If the guy tells you anything otherwise he is lying. Look around and be smart about buying gold jewelry.

wow! these are all great replies!
i wanted to ask if any of you have had experience in talking with your future in-laws about who/what to design for jewelery...
the situation here is that my mom has made a lot of heavy sets for me in particular one set which will work very nicely as a valima one....now the bridal dress which we will design, the ideal situation would be to have the guys side pay for the jewelery and that way we get our taste and are able to match it accordingly....how does one approach this or start this conversation so as not to offend anyone...thanks

Mashallah some smart answers here! It seems like you know your stuff.....can someone please explain why is polki so expensive? I mean it don't retain its value like gold......

Erm, can some one enlighten me, what is a POLKI?

Re: Cost estimate wedding zewar

Isn't it uncut diamonds

yeh they are uncut diamond chips, arent as pricey as cut diamonds but just because they are diamonds they are somewhat pricey

it's expensive because demand exceeds supply just as for cut diamonds and cuz of great marketing.

it would be easier to just speak to them and ask them politely if its ok for u to choose ur on valima outfit. i actually have no idea how u would ask them about the jewelry because in some instances, the inlaws may already have gold jewelry and maybe arent looking to buy any; they might not be looking to buy gold jerwelry for the valima day cuz they might think u will only wear a big set once so theres no point in buying gold; or most likely, they will want to go shopping for gold themselves. i say, just let them make all the jewelry they wanna make and tell them that u will be wearing a set u have already. or why dont u just go shopping with them for the jewelry? u might be able to get a better set for the valima from them?

u should create sone middle ground with ur in laws as it may cause unrequired tension at this busy time- and for them to feel that your side is being too much 'in control' over their side of the preps. Ideally most brides would love to pick out there own dress/jewellery and get the in laws to pay.

i think u should wait for them to start discussion on this matter, and then ease in ur point of view, this may come across as more thoughtful.

Thanks, sounds interesting, so r these diamond chips like uneven?

Anyway, just bcos im interested now, if anyones got any pics of polki jewellery, pls can u post? Or if im overtaking the original thread, then don't!

Re: Cost estimate wedding zewar

sumorani, post ur pics, would like to see ur wedding set....

No they aren't uneven. They cut the diamond chips to the specifications of the jewelry. so if ur set requires square shapes of a certain size, thats what u will get. its different from how a 'diamond' is cut and polished. with polki u only see a white shine, with a diamond u see the different colors what they really call the brilliance which u dont see in polki.

im considering posting my weddings pics again.
