I was listening to Dr. Laura Schlesinger’s program on NPR today and one caller, a 19 year old, living at her parents home, girl said that her mother was being unreasonable in imposing her opinions on her. The main issue seemed to be a certain magazine the mother didnt approve of so the girl read it outside the house and kept it in the car. On finding out the id of the magazine to be cosmo Dr. Laura said that the magazine was total garbage as it did not teach girls family values, why not to have sex before marriage, why they should be taking care of their husbands cause they have taken the vows etc.
I confess, I have never read cosmo, but I do know that a lot of desi girls swear by it and consider it their relationship bible. I do know that it has some raunchy articles.
Now what I want to know is how many of you read it regularly, comeon fess up, and why do you think it is a good magazine to read or why it is not appropriate for young girls?
Chalo shabbash, jaldi batao.
PS: I am planning to ban it in my house after listening to Dr. Laura
I read a lot of teen magazines growing up, and moved on to Cosmo and the likes - its true, its absolute garbage and gives the wrong message to young girls. very interesting though - guess thats how they make their money.
I love flipping through FHM or mens health though - much better than girl magazines!
I used to read Cosmo religiously in high school. I stopped in my 20s, cause it is too shallow, but I guess it was enough to keep me content during my teens.
Am i the only one who reads cosmo all the time
i read it but only 2 parts girl and guys confession part it is just amazing
sorry but yeah i love only the confession part
I read cosmo for several years while I was in high school and yes Dr. Laura is right, it is utter trash. I would definitely start reading it when i get engaged or married but as for now, i have no need for it. It’s all about sex, ohw to look like you’ve done it (bedhead after a great nite of sex ),wha tfoods to eat to hav sex later on (garlic and onoions r a no-no ) and of course, HOW to have sex!!
Iv never read Cosmo, never really needed any relationship advice as I already know everything there is to know.
Vouge, however is the real “bible”
I must admit though, when I was a wee bairn, I used to only buy a magazine if I recieved a free lipgloss, diary, nail varnish or handbag with it, I forgot to tell me mam the price of the magazine but shoved the free thing in her face all the time. She approved.
cosmo sucks....they give u the same ol stuff again and again 'how to please your man in bed" "1000 ways tp please your man in bed " what to do to please your man in bed" "what your man REALLY wants u to do to him in bed" "what your man wont ever say but REALLY wants u to do in bed"
even the fashion tips are repetitive....i cant tell u how many times i've read the "right way to apply blush" and the "what products are right for fine hair" tips.....again and bloody again.....
if a young girl is looking for fashion mags i believe elle, vogue, bazaar, lucky are good....
but then again at that age the stuff they post in cosmo "how i dealt with my bitchy back-stabbing ex-best friend" is very atttractive........
the last time i read it was last year when i was bored beyond belief in the library. i had no friends coz i had just moved here. n i had no hw. n nothing to do
