Corruption ...

The mother of all issues in Pakistan right now is : Corruption . The trait that has ruined the nation’s character nationally and internationally. From grass root level to the top , every single individual is guilty of it. Even in this destressing time , corruption is at its peak.

My question to you all is as an ordinary citizen of Pakistan, what can we do to kill corruption and enforce rule of law? ..Lets be honest, self cleanse is not an option. its not going to happen. Its just not practical in Pakistan. so we have to think of ways more creative , more pressure bearing that will force the nation to quit corruption and bring those to the law who are involved in any form of it.

My suggestion is to apply immense pressure through the Media on the Army and Judiciary to inturn apply pressure on the Parliament to pass the capital punishment law on Convicted Corruption Criminals. Just like how it is in China. Nothing lesser then that is going to work.

thoughts? anyone willing to help? or are there any better ways to cleanse the system of corruption? I can assure you if we all together consistently and persistently send enough emails and messages to the leading news anchors putting pressure on them to raise hue and cry against corruption and force bodies to pass new anti corruption laws … we will end up getting somewhere by a fraction , if not completely.

Re: Corruption ...

It will take much more than your suggestion. First of all it takes decades in Pakistan for a court case to reach to a conclusion and decision.
The best way all this can be handled if courts are mandated to pass the judgment in few days and weeks by law of the land , all the social evils can be eradicated in no time.
Laikin billy k galay main ghanti kon bandhay ga .
All the corrupt people are in key positions be it parliament , civil service or law enforcement .

Re: Corruption ...

^exactly...imp point.....

Re: Corruption ...

There is no simple, straightforward solution. From the gatekeeper at office of driving Licencing authority to the president, all are corrupt.

The issue is that we need to realize it is WRONG. That can only come through education.... not schooling that we have currently, but education. Educate our children that it is WRONG. It would take decades. For me, it is so much ingrained in our system that it is difficult to purge in a few months or years. From the days of Mughal empire (and before), our systems are based on corruption. Its not that we as people are inherently bad. We do abide by rules and regulations when we immigrate to a 'civilized' country. Its just that we are not taught that it is not 'okay' to bribe, cheat, hurt, and so on....

What happens in Pakistan when we drive on motorway. We all obey rules. Because we know we are going to be fined if we don't and the officers won't 'settle' the matter. Reason: the officers are educated and trained, not that they don't like money coming to their pockets. As soon as we get off motorway, any concerns for the driving rules are forgotten. The point is: yes, the systems can be improved to reduce corruption, but needs dedication and education.

P.S. I am sorry, but I do believe our Army is involved in massive 'legalized' corruption and judiciary is no club of saints either.

Re: Corruption ...

Mirch I know what you mean .. but we cant give up ... I am talking about applying pressure on the key people General Ashfaq Kiani and Chief Justice Chaudhry Iftikhar .... These are the people we can still look upto, who can put pressure on the parliament. As it stands the most corrupt of the three is the parliament !

As ordinary citizens we cant be sitting here watching our country getting wiped down. Its time to move ... why cant we use Media ... Media is our strength ... an ordinary pakistani's strength .. if we all together put enough pressure on them ... they will raise enough hue and cry about it and they CAN move the authorities ... we have seen it in the past ...

Re: Corruption ...

Kakaballi, the do or die crossroads that Pakistan stands on at this point , does not have the time for slow procedures , our teachers are corrupt, our syllabus is crazp ... education system is next to none .. our system is only creating majority pare likhay jaahil .. so we cant count on it right now.

yes Army and judiciary too are very corrupt. But once a law comes into force and few capital punishments take place , at least general public will start coming inline ... and that will ultimately form the power to catch the bigger fish and punish them. The revolution will have to start at the lower level. its too big to be dealt with starting from the senior levels!

Re: Corruption ...

***CB the Corruption has filtered down to every level of society........having lived here now for a while , I've begun to think its a case of "If you can't beat them join them !" cuz a person who tries to fight against it is considered the odd one out and a misfit.

As for a solution......i'm afraid its infiltrated every strata of society and you can't erase the problem as easily as one would hope too.

A start would be to enforce a law and order situation and transparency in dealings and accountability at all levels and institute stricter laws .***...

Re: Corruption ...

sheyn thats why i said, its time we have a death penalty on corruption just like how its help in China .... corruption is no less a crime then selling drugs ... it has finished the roots of our country.

We need just two people to take enough interest in this and sow a seed ... those two are head of army staff and and Chief Justice ... yes we cant do anything from this far away ... or it would be unfair to expect a single bunch of people to take action against a whole sea full of sharks ... but I think we must raise hue and cry and force governmental bodies to listen to us ... and do something about corruption. A few innocent people might get killed in the beginning .. but if the system catches pace .. it will add value and scare ordinary people against corruption. Once that happens , the big fish will get caught ....

I say we inundate the Media and start putting pressure on them ... its pointless watching their shows with people like fozia wahab and other loser crowd rona roying of their every day incompetency ... time for action and we are the power .. why can we not move the media and let it become our sword?

Re: Corruption ...

U can't trust media they have own agenda too. If they have the integrity then why they not expose all the stories they know?

Re: Corruption ...

Raheem when there is burai everywhere , you choose the lesser burai to take over the big one. Media is still the least sinning party amidst the bigger fish. They are exposing as they can ... but they are ordinary people like yo uand me , who get life threats , job threats and so forth.

They are still doing alot more then us ordinary paksitani's ... its time we back them up... we use the people power to tell the sleeping powers what we want... A a true pakistani this is the least we can do for our country.

I am waging my peaceful war against corruption. Hoping and praying that a single drop of water will one day make a difference to the sea ... but if we join hands and collectively wage this war , the results will be quicker and better ....

Re: Corruption ...

1st step is by making our votes count and sadly the genuine votes that have mattered the most never actually made it to the vote banks, some of us citizens don't even bother going down to vote just because they have given up and are hopeless about the system, I try my best everytime to make my vote count and take along as many people as I can while I'm doing it but still there are millions of other citizens out there who just don't make it, sad but true.

We talk about the media making the difference, what do you expect from that very media that has sold itself already? I'd be solely referring to the GEO network, a network that also happens to be the biggest network in Pakistan's media industry. 50-60% of its investment comes from Jews only. Go figure how.

Re: Corruption ...

Chunky I agree with the voting part. But since thats not happening .. and amidst high levels of corruption , votes can easily get lost into the world unknown.

Geo is not the only Media channel. We have many. Our best bet is to use a medium to raise our voice and apply pressure on bodies that can make a difference. Who cares what channels we use. I am not only using national Channels. I am directing my mails to CNN , BBC and Jazeera ... someone , somewhere will notice them .... please dont get drawn into whose income is coming from where ... in this time of need , use the best possible resources the country has got, into achieving what WE want.

Re: Corruption ...

Okay I guess the above reply was not a encouraging one, sorry CB. I guess I'm just as concerned and upset as to how this country has been progressing. But rest assured I have no intentions of giving up on it anytime soon. :-)

The initiative is indeed a solid one, the 2 people you speak of (Chief of Army and CJ) are sincere in their efforts when it comes to Pakistan. I still believe General Pervaiz Musharaf was the best thing that ever happened to Pakistan in terms of economy and prosperity. We can raise our voices on various forums, email them with as many signatures and as many emails we can to any addresses that gives us the slightest of hope. The media apart from GEO is well worth giving a try too. I think I can come up with some addresses where our voices will be given enough importance/priority. I cant however do it on my own.

Initiative is one (easy)
Planning comes second (Less easy)
Implementation comes last and is also considerably the hardest.

Re: Corruption …

Now we are talking CM :hugz: … I have strong belief in Syed Talat hussain and A few other anchors , who i know are patrons of sincere efforts to rebuild Pakistan. I am going to make their list and their emails . We will add to that list who ever we think is appropriate … The key is to send them emails regards this topic with consistency … when they recieve a alot of emails , letters … regards the same subject over a course of time .. they will be forced to look into what the viewers want … and that will be our starting point .

Are we in?

Re: Corruption ...

I love corruption ,,,, makes us different from any other country Ive ever been to so when ever I come back always feel dil dil pakistan

Re: Corruption …

Ofcourse! I’d absolutely love to be involved. and yes, talat hussain is a good human being and most of all a patriot.

We can use Sheyn for her extraordinary resources within the Taliban. An email sent by Sheyn on their behalf i’m sure will make the concerned organizations run for their lives and do what we need them to do in record time.

Re: Corruption ...

quite true.

Re: Corruption ...

Pakistan has been standing on do or die situation since 1948.

Education system that we have is 'next to none'. This is true. That is why I differentiate 'education' and 'schooling'. My father used to tell me to cross red lights (if there is no police wala watching) while driving back from Jummah Prayers! I have heard 'Shukar al Hamdullilah' when someone manages to get illegal immigration to a kafir country. This is the type of education we get from our parents, neighbors, teachers, bosses and so forth.

It is up to us to do something about it. I cannot emphasize much that our education system has to change drastically, otherwise, we'll continue to be in a rut. One solution is to force ministers, members of parliament, bureaucrats (above grade 19), officers of the armed forces (above, say Lt. Col), etc. to have their children educated in Pakistan (unless receiving scholarships from abroad). They should be made to resign their posts if they want to send their children abroad for studies. I am sure they would do their utmost to improve standards in Pakistan on emergency basis and educate our 'elite'.

I don't foresee 'parhay likhay jahil' that we produce now doing anything to curb corruption, which would eventually hurt them.

Re: Corruption ...

The Chinese model is not really practical. Most of the 'top officials' are corrupt. Capital punishment is for those only who cross lines with 'the party'.

Re: Corruption …

KB , this is one of the best solutions I have heard so far … and it makes alot of sense … One of the major reasons for corruption is indeed the fact that politicians have set up their entire lives outside of pakistan. Once they are forced to live in the country and their kids and businesses to breed on the Pakistani soil, they will sincerely work for Pakistan.

I for one , will definitely be highlighting this point in all of my correspondence from now on :lifey: … I dont know if it will eventually make a difference or not , but we should not resign to our fate and fighting back against the system is the option that most overseas pakistani’s have. We can afford to in everyway. Therefore fight , we must and try to bring about a change in that country.

Regards the capital punishment, I agree with you somewhat , that it wont be the most practical model, but at least corruption will get reduced by a significant percentage. At least at the grass root level… once some system cleansing happens … its easier to handle the big fish … its not going to happen in a day though.
