Hey guys… Ok I need some serious suggestions. I’m getting married in April inshallah and i’ve pretty much decided on what I want for mehndi and baraat (Thanks to this forum) but still very undecisive about the Walima outfit. I’ve recently started liking Coral, but my issue is that Coral is one of those colours which could look stunning and give me that exact stylish/pretty princessy look i’m thinking of OR it could go horribly wrong and just not suit me at all…
My main concern is firstly, how do i explain to the designer what colour coral is? Any of my cousins/relatives in Pak that i’ve mentioned Coral too have no idea about that colour!! I don’t want it to go wrong and look pink or look orange it has to be that exact coral colour.
Also any suggestions of what combination would look good with Coral, I was thinking either Coral/Grey or Coral/Gold any other suggestions plz??
And if anyone has any nice pics of Coral outfits plzz could u post them here i’d be very grateful…
go to a fabric store in the city where you live. pick out the shade of coral you want and see if it suits your skin tone. buy a large swatch. cut it in thirds. send 1/3 to your designer so he/she can dye your outfit from it, 1/3 to your family so they can keep track of what the designer is doing, and keep 1/3 yourself so you can reference it when planning other aspects of your outfit like your makeup and jewellery.
that is the ONLY way to do it to make sure you get the colour you want. monitors display colours differently- what is coral to you here, might look red to your family back home. don’t take a chance. send the swatch. amen.
i would do coral and gold, or coral and ivory. if you intend to do a grey, please also send a swatch back of the exact shade of grey you want. grey and gold also looks lovely together so if you do go with any of those, you can easily have dull gold kaam on the whole outfit. the one geminis has posted is gorgeous.

or if the whole outfit is coral like in the pics Nuzu posted, i would get dull gold kaam done and choose a very dark navy blue for piping.. it would look really nice and unexpected

they're not gonna get "tarboozi". pakistani tarboozay are bicharay pale and unhealthy looking. trust me on this, get the swatch. save your tears!
I don't think our watermelons are sorry looking. Lol. But yes SGC has pointed out a much safer approach. :) alternatively you can ask your relatives to send you a piece of the fabric. :)
FarhaK i was in the exact same position as you when i decided my wedding dress colour.
I decided maroon and coral for my baraat dress but no one in pakistan understood coral, so when i went to pakistan myself i specefically asked to look at the colour before it went for the kaam work.
I bought my dress from Makkah at Tariq Rd, Karachi, the owner was excellent he made sure i was happy with the colour before i sent it of.
Yea i think that would be a good option to ask them to show me the colour before it goes for the work on it. Abeek how did u go about describing the colour to them in the first place? Did u take a sample of the colour u wanted? Would u mind sharing pics xx
I absolutely LOVE CORAL ... I'm wearing red shirt and dupatta with coral lenga for my barat.. I've already ordered my outfit via email and now i'm a bit worried if my designer with actually understand the type of coral color i need (since there are so many different shades)... I'll be going in Feb to check out the color since its already been dyed ... I hope it comes out right!
BTW i'd choose coral with gold kaam over silver kaam ...
