Question: Why do we get to hear most [not all] but most girls say that they can’t even fry an egg before their shadi . The way they mention it - it seems they feel good about it. On the other hand, when a guy can makes an omelet then it seems to be such a big deal. Why our women don’t take pride in cooking as much as men do? When a husband cooks then ppl applause him that he can cook. But same thing isn’t done for wife or women. Is it because we women don’t take pride in cooking ourselves? or is it because since men are not suppose to cook n when they do then it becomes such a hype?? I give props to those ppl regardless of their gender that at least they learn to cook no matter what :k:

Re: COOKING vs. Gender
Isn't it chic not to be a chic now a days. I guess that is the reason women do not like cooking.
Re: COOKING vs. Gender
I think its because the role of cooking gets kind of thrusted upon women and they dont get much appreciation for it. Its considered their duty so they feel proud about breaking the mold and being one of those women who dont cook.
Men arent supposed to be in the kitchen so when they tackle a job that doesnt exactly fit their gender stereotype, they get applauded.
Wouldnt we get praised if we knew how to change the oil on a car?
:)
Re: COOKING vs. Gender
^ true we do get praised if we change oil of the car - but men dont go around and pretend they can't change or fix their cars infact they talk about it and make it their hobbies. Then why not us women can do the same in the matter of cooking?? Yes, it is considered to be part of our job but can't we love this job enough to make it sound n look interesting?? I'll be honest, I used to hate cooking and even working in the kitchen way back .. like 10 yrs ago but when I started to live alone and had to cook on my own then I actually developed love for cooking. Its an Art. Play with it and enjoy it.

Great observation LL about women and their hate for cooking.
Some men do take pride in mentioning that they cannot change the oil in the car, or cannot mow the lawn , or fix a leaking faucet. It is a statement of superiority in their eyes. Like only low life people do all that.
I guess may be same mentality works behind these kind of statements by women. I do not know I am guessing.
Ah, Yes. You have a point. May be our Pakistani girls feel that by working in the kitchen will somehow bring their personality down. Or may be they think by saying they can’t cook - they wana prove they r move of an outside kind of person - more like practical and the kind who used to be tomboy and deals with world openely [which believe it or not - our desi females do take pride on]
Why can’t our women think that yes we work outside, yes we deal with people and shoulder to shoulder stand with men but wouldn’t it get even better if we also take pride in cooking and taking care of the kitchen? Its just mastering one more skill isnt it?? Btw I didn’t know some men tend to take pride in the things that u mentioned
wonder what men have to say abbout it??

correct your grammar Lois, as a journalist you bring shame to your profession. ![]()
But Orphy, this shouldn’t make our women hate cooking now, right? These fast food chains and frozen foods - they are good for time being but one cannot live on them for soo long. One day or the other you do crave for fresh home cooked food. I think women who loves to cook - still cook no matter what and no matter how many frozen foods are available out there. But the question remain that why we dont have many women who claim proudly that thy love to cook and wana master this skill? I see many married women in Household forum and mashaAllah looking at the pics they all seems like good cook and they admit it. Props to such women :k:
