Cooking in College

College, grad school, whatever.

What do you cook, and what tools do you use in the kitchen to accomplish your cooking endeavors when you need maximal time to study? How often do you cook in the week/in the day?

Easy ideas for meals only, please?

Re: Cooking in College

Ramen Nooooooooooooooodles!

Re: Cooking in College

^ lol yea that helps too but not for long.

rice/lentils/noodles/frozen veggies! Basically nothing desi!

Re: Cooking in College

i lived off of that stuff at uni.

stir fry's PCG....stir frys are quick to make and healthy.

Re: Cooking in College

yep stirfrys, pasta with the ready made sauce, canned soups, make extra portions of stuff and freeze, burgers made of lean meat and cook using George Foreman grill, takes like 15 mins perhaps to cook.

Have you considered frozen dinners? lean cuisines, smart ones etc?

Re: Cooking in College

there a lot of desi frozen meals available now.
maybe stock up on those and just toss in the microwave

Re: Cooking in College

Just buy a big bori of rice, ata ... make yourself rotis once/twice a week .. you can even freeze them for later ... cook extra rice so you cane eat it for 2-3 days ... and yep, lots of stirfrys ... make sure you keep plenty of fruit n veggies around.

Re: Cooking in College

Desi food is too messy and labor intensive. And besides it pisses off the other people using the kitchenette (smell gets into EVERYTHING and EVERYWHERE). I swear you could smell desi food 2 floors down!

After Desis, the Chinese and korean students were next on the "hate thier cooking smells" list.

Only desi thing I ever made was khitchree once a month.. a bit pot of it lasted me a week. for the rest of it... It was pasta and veggies all the way.

Re: Cooking in College

Yeah I think pakistani food is a bit too involving. Requires too much time, and there are too many steps.

I was thinking stir-fry as well, and daal chawal too. There is nothing wrong with daal, its highly healthy!

But then I figured after a month, one might get tired of stir-fry.

:-/

George foreman grills are expensive. Are there cheaper brands?
