what are some of the first dishes new brides made at their in-laws. I know its usually sweets and stuff. but what about meal wise?
First time I made Kheer, Puri, Fruit triffle and Dahi baray (in kheer pakaei rasm), then after in regular meal I made biryani.
i made zarda....and then chinese....sweet and sour chicken with chicken masala rice...

I made halwa which my husband guided me thru since I had no idea how to make it. Afterwards he raised his hands and made a dua "ALLAH mian iss k hath mai zaiqa dena".

For my parents in law who were visiting for the wedding i made zarda and chicken salan. When i went to Pak for the first time, i was requested to make pizza and carrot cake that my PIL's had tasted here and had told others abt how good it was.

I only stayed a month at my inlaws after i got married,in Pakistan...so i never made anything there.....
when they visited us here,their first meal was aaloo gosht(which they happen to love) and chicken karahi and chanay ka pulao...:)

I made halwa & also made chicken salan . I also made thoria (Zuccini) as my fil loves it.
The 1st time I went back to pakiland after marriage...my hubby suggested I make this roast chicken that I make really well here...as im used to ingredients here. But anyways it was a huge disaster...totally burnt the chicken...the potatoes didn't cook...etc....
my poor hubby, him & FIL still ate some of it...hehe
I also made quesadillas which turned out really good. My MIL is a vegetarian so i made simple squash n eggplant ones for her and she loved em too. I HATE COOKING IN PAKISTAN!!! ESP in summer....grrrr
I think it was zarda, lekin sirf ek dafa chamch hilaya tha, bas. MIL ne hi banaya tha as it was just for the rasm. And I haven't cooked sthg yet.
First dish was supposed to be halwa and parathas, but i didnt do anything, just looked in on the kitchen while MIL and SIL cooked away (hehe!) but everyone thought i had made them.
First meal was keema and handmade rotis. Even tho made extra roti, they finished so FIL complained i didnt make enough. Husband said don't mind him, rotis only finished bcos the salan was so good.
Next meal i cooked was italian style meatballs in tomato sauce. One of his cousins was passing thru then went home and told his mum to make the same thing. An mean aunty happened to drop in for lunch and sampled them, then proceeded to tell me that I do not know how to cook, and when she cooks, her meatballs are hard, and mine were soft.
Made a chocolate cream cake and english trifle. They still remember those 2 after all these years, but i havent cooked there v much since.

I notice too that its not easy cooking in pakistan. Stuff that u make so well here often turns out different there.

recently me and my hubby moved out to our place and i cooked for the first time and alhamdullilah it turned out great as well!

Part of my problem was the oven there. I think it was broken or just weird. It took years for that chicken to cook, so it came out dry...and practically burnt....dunno just a disaster waiting to happen. Here we have foil so I am able to marinate whole chicken & bake and it comes out wonderful & juicy...hehe
I went to some place called CSD in pindi, that has grocery items...and this package said "cheddar cheese"...i got it only to find a cheap imitation cheese that looks like a block of american cheese....ewwwww

^^I think they have everything in Pakistan that you get in US/UK but you just need to go to the right places. And they definitely DO have foil available as well.

I also got some cash from PIL's for cooking something the first time. Hubs thought it was wierd until i told him it was a rasam to do so.
WHen i was in Pak, my BIL (nandoi) kept asking me to cook and make fun of me. When i did make something, i think MIL made him give me some cash too :D
