Re: Cooking for 60 people
^ Lol. On my part it was definitely taken as a joke.
Re: Cooking for 60 people
Sometimes in joke we ridicule others too, why only jokes at some Islamic movement???!!!
PS: I didn’t take it serious by the way, may be I sounded but it wasnt on a serious or grumpy note but just that we should not always mention Islamic movements for joke always
Re: Cooking for 60 people
Okay, the iftar is tomorrow. Please, pray that I can deliver good food. ameen
My husband asked me if they have a back up plan ![]()
The number of people went up from 60 to 100, apparently more people show up on weekends.
Eastern11, I am using the big trays from costco. I am just making 5 trays of curry chicken. I ended up getting the chicken cut into two pieces instead of three. I bought 2 boxes of chicken leg quarters cut into two pieces. Each box had around 55 leg quarters, so I am hoping it will be enough inshahAllah. The organizers asked me tonight to make 4 rice trays instead of 2. Oh and I also got 30 naans. Will cut them into 4 pieces.
I am also roasting 2 trays of potatoes and cauliflower. For dessert, I dropped the fruit idea and now I am making fruit trifle.
The 5 chicken trays are marinating in the fridge.
So yeah that was the update.
Will update with the final results tomorrow inshahAllah. ![]()
Re: Cooking for 60 people
because only islamic jamaats can come to masjid and not a hooligans’ carnival or a band to perform concert. Like TLK said, it was said on a light note, yet it had a point to be kept in mind that 60 people is almost a fixed number when invited at home but not much when sponsoring at masjid so a person preparing food should consider that part as well.
Best of Luck Lusi, tell us how it goes :k: May Allah give you loads of ajar and accept your hardwork
what are you doing for the drinks ?
Re: Cooking for 60 people
Water bottles. Oh and we got a box of dates too.
Re: Cooking for 60 people
I would get a bottle of rooh afza as well ![]()
Re: Cooking for 60 people
But proto its a tradition to make joke of Islam or somethings related to it more. My husband goes frequently in jamat and they cook their own usually so i do have to pinpoint that even if its in a lighter note. I didnt even mean to take it gravely Yes I do understand when u organize in masjid it sdifficult to estimate number of people but why only Jamat ppl? even bachelors show up. My point was that WE try not to pinpoint certain group. Should not we?
Re: Cooking for 60 people
IA i think it will suffice Lusi. May Allah reward you enormously for your effort
Re: Cooking for 60 people
They requested water. Besides it is a multiethnic crowd, not sure if everyone has a taste for rooh afza. And the Desi bazar is far away ![]()
Re: Cooking for 60 people
I think simple water is fine, rooh afza works in pakistan
Re: Cooking for 60 people
My rice are done.
I made a little mistake with chicken and am a little behind. 2 trays are baked, 2 are in the oven.
Cooking for 60 people
Good luck Lusi!! Masjid iftars are always hard especially when it is open aalan
Re: Cooking for 60 people
Okay iftar is all ready. Alhamdulilah!
I hope it does tastes good.
I have gained lot of appreciation and respect for women who cater events from their small kitchens to support their families.
Re: Cooking for 60 people
Lusi make pics plz.
Re: Cooking for 60 people
I took few pics, couldn’t take pictures of everything as we had to get the food ready for pickup. I had started cooking at 10am but we were at a time crunch. Everything had to be ready by 5pm. The original count went up from 60 people to 100 people. I gave them money for kids pizza.
some pics, however they are not all that great.
baked chicken curry
Trifle
baked potatoes and cauliflower
I also had matar rice, salad, khajoor, and naan.
This was good learning experience. Hopefully, next year I will manage things much better. inshahAllah

Re: Cooking for 60 people
Looks great. I have cooked for 50-60 people Iftar for 4 years.. Wish I had seen this thread and shared my experience. I used to make chick peas a day in advance because I only had two big pots.. Oh well, sounds like everything went perfect.. Great job while you are pregnant.. Now put up your feet and rest for a few days! ![]()
