I am doing some research to understand the reasons people convert to Islam.
There are scores of conversions happening everyday around the world.
Although it is a fact and every other muslim feels pleasure in bragging about growing number of muslims on face of this earth.
I feel no particular pride but i am curious.
There are lots of converts who try to remain low profile. They converted to Islam on their very own free will but they don’t want to talk about it much in public. I respect their privacy but still I am curious.
Last I checked the list of ‘known’ converts to Islam in past few decades, and astonishing list was huge.
Those people included Scientists, Politicians, Diplomats , Scholars , Musicians , NBA players, Sports personalities , journalists etc
Now this wide spectrum of conversion to Islam is quite interesting because it is happening all over the world. It is happening in Chile, Scandinavia, Africa, India , Russia, Brazil UK, USA and many other parts of the world. But in some part of the world I did not find conversions of known personalities. It was Japan , korea and China.
I may be wrong as my study is on initial stages.
I will share some info about some personalities and their mysterious reasons for conversion. Please share if you have anything on this topic. thanks

As far as I have read your posts Code_Red, I think you try extremely hard to present yourself as a devil's advocate. You really do not need to.
For your question, why are you interested in known personalities? Known personalities do not matter to God. Everyone is same in His sight and better are those who are pious.
Secondly if anything, your research would have made sense if it was for the percentage of people converting in totality.

83% of the statistics are useless.
'Known personalities' means people have done something in a particular field. Most of these 'known' people would still be unknown to 99.995843 % population of this world.

blacks convert to islam because of their racist views against white people the whole nation of islam was a fierecly anti-white racist group.Furthermore most of the "converts" have absolutely no knowledge of theology history or traditions.Its based on some moving "personal expreience"
my favourite converts to islam are Jonathan Brown and Khalid Yahya blankinship who are religious scholars who converted to islam after meticulously studying it their conversion is worh a 1000 NBA players, rappers , rapists , singers

I would add ..Sheikh Hamza Yousaf, and Martin Lings to the list who are worth alot more than 100000 NBA or Football players as some have claimed that nicholas anelka is one

1947 they used to convert to Nation of Islam 40 years back because son of the founder of the nation of Islam
converted to sunni Islam and when he became leader he converted all of his members too

I Do not look down upon any individual who has chosen his faith on his own free will. In-fact I consider them all praise worthy. Be it Islam or any other faith. Every individual is free to decide about his / her way of life and faith.
My reason of curiosity is the wide spectrum of conversions. Sometime conversions are based on study, inspiration and research. Sometimes it is based on personal, spiritual feelings. And sometime reasons for conversions are mysterious, unknown.
I do not hold any hidden emotions,grudge, bias against any type of conversion in any sect/religion for any reason at all. The sole purpose of this topic is learning and understanding human mind, heart and soul searching thought process.

Now coming back to lime light. Most of you folks are aware of Academy Awards. Many among us have seen the latest 83rd Academy Awards show recently.
Last year the award for best original music score for motion pictures plus best original song for motion pictures. The guy bagged two (2) Oscars last year
This year he was nominated in the same 2 categories but could not win.
The guy’s name is A R Rehman. He is most sought after music director in South Asia. Prior to Oscar win, he was known to 28.48% world population. His popularity has increased now; he is known by 43.32% world’s population till this date. Just the stats for clarity.
The guy is a converted Muslim.
I ask Mr. Rehman why have you converted to Islam ?
Mr. Rehman would Say :

well, it is Mashallah the efforts of Muslim people, and the way where people spread islam all over the world via different means, internet is the most important way to spread islam a lot all over the world. so in America islam is spreading with a grea percentage, dont know that exact figure, but this is great .. really...
i kinda knew but i guess it was so surprising that i was in disbelief..
