Contour and Hilight

Re: Contour and Hilight

pseudo or gina...would either of you be interested in giving a simple tutorial? with some realistic lighting because i find a lot of youtubers (like the one posted) have this supernatural lighting that only really looks good in that specific situation.

i

Thanks P! But I totally made a mistake I checked my foundations again and U am a NC 40 in foundation and NC 30 in concealer. But in going to go check out the 20 and 15 today and report back. Ill be attempting either of the looks tmrw night so lets see.

Re: Contour and Hilight

^Try the NW20! it should work best.

Re: Contour and Hilight

Is this correct contouring and highlighting. I got it from the wedding section and I looked at her makeup that was done professionally and it looked like classic contouring and highlighting right? Or is it completely overdone.

Re: Contour and Hilight

She's very pretty mA but I wonder why they didn't photoshop under her eyes and under the bottom lip..

Re: Contour and Hilight

What were the flaws under the eyes and bottom lip?

Re: Contour and Hilight

It looks pretty good. Ofcourse, for bridal makeup they tend to overdo it because there’s going to be photography. It’s a bit much for everyday but the placement for bronzer, blush and highlight seems to be fine.

Contour and Hilight

That's such a nice picture. Pseudonymous you are the best! Before I even saw your suggestion, I picked up a sample of the NC20 Prolongwear Concealer. With my creme NC30 concealer it worked beautifully but my beauty blender helped a lot! I reallllllyyyyy liked my makeup tonight and I bought a Maybeline stick foundation in their second darkest color, blended that with my contouring brush and bronzer and the job came out nice super nice!! I wish I could post a picture but Im not comfortable posting pics on GS but this thread was such a help!! NO CAKEYNESS! I would suggest getting a wet sponge blender (I used a beauty blender from Sephora $20, but so worth it,) it helped and by also only putting powder where needed like setting it under the eyes also did it for me.

Ps. Pseudonymous, are you a MUA?? You helped out my little weekend dilemma!! People were commenting on my makeup tonight. All of that money I spent on makeup this week payed off for the first time!! Hugs! Xox

Someone also told me to get Kevin Aucoin for highlighting, do you have a review on his products? The girl who told me about it does phenomenal makeup.

Re: Contour and Hilight

I wish I could see how you do your makeup especially the contouring/highlighting. I've done it a few times now and I'm getting used to the contouring but on the highlighting(i actually use a luminizer), it always ends up looking too light and cakey. I don't know how an NC 35 person would put nc20 concealer as highlighter because that would look ashy, cakey and wouldn't blend into the skin. I tried to use one of the lighter shades of a concealer with a drugstore brand(covergirl I think not sure) I still can't seem to get the hang of it.

S and S how did you avoid the cakeyness because I have a beauty blender too but when I step out in daylight the highlighted part was so off and looked thick and just too made up. I don't want to give up on getting it right though.

Re: Contour and Hilight

Awww i’m so glad I could help! :hugz: I do freelance, however I haven’t been doing too much makeup lately because i’m so swamped with school work  I have a facebook page with some of my work there ( Facebook ). I haven’t been posting much lately, but I will be posting soon! You can follow me on instagram (Marwah119) if you have it, I usually post more often there. If you do, let me know who you are

Re: Contour and Hilight

I'll look for a picture and pm you. I have NC30-35 skin and NW20 concealer doesn't look too light at all! What's your skin type? are you oily? and what are your undertones? if ashyness is the problem, maybe you need a warmer color. Try NW instead of NC. Also, concealer is a tricky but very important part of the makeup, I would recommend a more high end one, or then try the Maybelline fit me one, that's pretty good. I've never used the Covergirl one so can't comment on it, but def give MAC's NW20 prolongwear concealer a try.

Re: Contour and Hilight

I was told by the MAC MUA that i was NC 35 but I was in between colors so I might try the NW25 or NC30 concealer. btw, what shade of Maybelline Fit me concealer do you use? I'll probably use a shade or two darker for myself. I just want the best quality concealer that is the bet fit for me. I'll try the prolong wear one and see if it works for me too. So is the highlighter color lighter than the color you use under the eyes or is it the same one for both highlighter and concealer for dark circles and stuff? Apologies for asking so many questions but your advice is invaluable and I really want to master this art since i've put so much effort into learning it.

Re: Contour and Hilight

Hey pseudo! How many shades lighter would you suggest for highlighting? I'm NC25 and I currently use Touche Éclat (#1.5) as my under eye concealer, but I'm keen on trying this highlighting/contouring technique. Should I switch to MAC?

Contour and Hilight

Global Gal, get your hands on some banana powder, mine came yesterday and I really loved the results. It took me a lot of practice and a lot of investment but its worth once you find the right products for you. I agree to get a more high end concealer and to avoid cakey was, I only used a lighter than usual layer of coverup, then a few shades lighter for my concealer and high lighting. Instead of using powder to set it all, I used the banana powder only on my highlighted spots and bronzer to set in the contouring area. It's new for me to not use a powder but avoiding that extra layer helped not only making the highlighting and contouring area more prominent so I didn't have to use as much except for my concealer area since I have very dark circles but the less you use, the less cakeyness. A finishing spray helped set the rest. Try avoiding the number of layers you do, it may help. It's been taking me longer to do the makeup but it seems much nicer and better. I also tried a sample of the Smash Box Photo Finish Primer and that worked soooo well. I blended some under my eyes with my concealer so I can avoid getting the lines showing up in my coverup but mostly reducing the number of layers helped mostly with that.

And go to MAC AND Sephora and grab some colour samples for different concealers. Try blending them or using them as is you would but I am a NC 40 and I am loving both the NC30&20 shades blended well with a banana powder.

Re: Contour and Hilight

I love Smashbox products!! I already have the Halo powder and I would love to have the primer too even if it's pricey. It's perfect. I'll try the banana powder too since i've heard so much about it. Since i'm on a budget right now I might get those next month. Thanks for the detailed information. Hugs

Re: Contour and Hilight

do not understand contouring. id prolly come out looking line a jigsaw puzzle

Re: Contour and Hilight

To keep it simple, i'd suggest use the same concealer for your under eye area AND your highlight. You can try Maybelline's fit me concealer in the color "medium" however, I think it'll only be 1 shade lighter, but give it a try. Otherwise try MAC's prolongwear OR select cover up concealer in NW20. NW 25-30 will be too close to your natural skin color, so it won't give much of a highlighting effect, you need to use something lighter!

Re: Contour and Hilight

They have lots of other great concealers out there, but I can only suggest the ones i've tried! I've heard NARS radiant creamy concealer is really good. So is Tarte's maracuja creaseless concealer, that one i've tried and is very good. However, I usually just suggest MAC one because i'm more familiar with them, and it's very easy to find a color that matches. If you're NC25, try their NW15 concealer...pro longwear or select coverup.

Re: Contour and Hilight

I was going to post this in a blog but think I'll just ask here instead as it's kinda related to the thread..

Sometimes Lilly Ghalichi's face looks a totally different shape than at other times.. Is it just contouring and makeup?

Her nose looks a lot slimmer with contouring so she's obviously into it tho I know she's also had surgery..

Re: Contour and Hilight

Lilly Galichi is just flat out scary looking :bummer:
