Contour and hilight tutorials and pics are everywhere on YouTube and they look easy but blending is quite difficult. Makeup looks cakes on me so I can never use products heavily but even with very little product it makes a huge difference. Do you guys have any tips or tricks of your own for the perfect Contour and hilight look.
Contouring can give an instant hotness effect. Sometimes I like to use pressed powder to highlight/contour. two shades Darker/lighter than my own skin tone, that also works really well for me.
however I want to try the MAC prep+prime highlighter pen, seems like it would be quicker?
She’s gorgeous! Question for anybody that’s a pro at this contouring highlighting stuff, when the step comes up where you have the dark foundation under the cheek bones and the parts where the contouring is supposed to happen and then you go over the two shade darker foundation with the foundation of your skin tone do you only go over the parts with two shade darker foundation and just stay in that region while blending or do you go over your whole face with the regular foundation blending the dark with the regular foundation all over the face. I’m seriously confused.
I’ve tried this a few times and failed to get the correct results.
Wow what a transformation from the before and after pic!! I really want to learn this art of contouring.
The idea of contouring to create a shading effect that will chisel and cut a face in a way that is more attractive...hide double chins, straighten noses, draw cheekbones, make lips appear fuller, etc.
If you go over your entire face with foundation all over again, you might end up with not a lot of shading at all.
The idea - like the picture MF posted - is to place and blend. If you have very problematic skin, do you concealer, foundation and leave your contouring until the end.

So you only blend the natural skin tone foundation in the contouring dark foundation right? and not all over... Since the all over thing makes it look so cakey and not anything like contouring and highlighting is supposed to look like.
What I don't get is when you blend the dark and light foundation, where is the whole match your foundation to your face bit!?!
Yeah I don't get that either because the girl in the pic you posted in the after pic it looks like she looks a bit darker than her natural skin tone in the before pic when it comes to skintone.
^ NARS Alabaster...not glittery or shimmery...has a very subtle glow that is just right.

Your foundation goes on first, then highlighting makeup and then contouring color. Blend, blend, blend.
I use an exact match foundation (after I've primed, my fave these days is Porefessional) all over my face and blend it really well. Depending on the look I'm aiming for, I go over with either a powder or cream contour color. The key is to keep the color intense right under the cheekbone, fading it upwards onto the actual cheekbone. I use a lighter concealer for under my eyes, center of the forehead, down the bridge of my nose, cupids bow and bottom part of my chin. I use MAC MSF to set my foundation and Ben Nye Banana powder for the areas I highlighted. I love the banana powder! It's a fine milled powder and it really brightens-up the entire face.
also, Gina, should the banana powder be used if my skin is more on the dry side and when I use a lighter colored concealer under my eyes would it look ashy?
I don't think I saw that part of the video? Was it way at the end? See this is why not everyone on YouTube is knowledgeable enough to do makeup tutorials. So what's the correct way of doing it?
there was another video where the girl put like three layers of bronzer, liquid, then she blended and then on top of that she layered on dry powder bronzer and blended in addition to highlighter and regular foundation. If I put all those layers on my dry face it'll look so cakey.
