Supreme court is going overboard in this case... this would create a big divide between institutions.. Gillani did teh right thing.. a huge crime was committed by the judges who are overseeing this case by validation Musharaf's Martial law in 1999. CJ Iftikhar Ch. can be prosecuted by taking oath under PCO and validating his martial law in Article 6.
Gilani will go and be replaced by another Zardari puppet. It amuses me how people this this will make any difference.
Also, Zardari has the power to issue presidential pardons that cannot be overruled, as per the constitution. In an extreme case, he could pardon Gilani upon his conviction and then some negotiation in parliament will see Gilani restored to office.
my prediction is gilani will get a punishment (if deep state doesnt play its role) . if judges dont want to take it too far then the punishment wont be too big and he will stay. otherwise he will resign as a shaheed and be replaced by someone else (kaira?) after that.
I think Gillani will probably get a censure from the court at best, and a notification for the parliament to discuss the letter issue and blah blah blah.
PPP goons (parliamentarians) are currently marching towards the SC as a show of force, clearly showing that in case of a guilty verdict, they will create a mess. Its such a shame to watch people like firdous ashiq, telling the media that she hopes that the court will deliver the right verdict.....clearly implying that any verdict other than an acquittal will be taken as wrong.
PM didnt' get any jail time. His punishment was the length of verdict announcement, at rising of the bench his punishment is considered fulfilled. Being convicted, and punished results in PM being disqualified from the post of PM of Pakistan.
^ No it does not. What the SC said, as per Dunya news, was that he **could **be disqualified. Meaning the process could be started to disqualify him as Aitzaz has been saying all along. It is not an automatic disqualification.
Shame on all those who were hyping it up as an automatic disqualification.
Not disqualified....He has been convicted, and his punishment was termed as long as the duration of the session...
He was 'freed' the moment the session ended.
However, now the debate is that he is a convicted prime minister, so will he continue, or will he resign, or will he be replaced. Technically, there is nothing barring him from continuing as PM.
Sickening press conference by Firdous Ashiq, where she is repeatedly saying that 'aaj unhon ney sabit kar diya kay woh party kay wazeer-e-azam hain'. Jerk.
