Console Online Gaming

So out of the console gamers here, what do you guys think of online gaming on consoles? How do you feel it has been for gaming as a whole?

As for myself, I started gaming online on consoles with the Dreamcast, particularly Phantasy Star Online. Beyond that, I’ve played some Halo and then fighting games online. So IMO online gaming on consoles is best for simply adding extra multiplayer options, like if I don’t have someone physically present to play a game with me, I can sign on online and play with someone else who’s playing the same game for the same type of experience that I could get if I were playing the game with a friend physically next to me.

Out of the cons that I’ve seen emerge from this trend are the following:
Less emphasis on local multiplayer - less split screen support in some games (support 2 split screens instead 4 e.g. Halo 3) or requiring online for multiplayer campaign play (e.g. Transformers War for Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron)
Microtransactions/DLC - while there’s nothing wrong with DLC in principle, there is the possibility of it being milked by devs. With harddrives being standard in game consoles now, there’s also the possibility of a game being shipped incomplete, to sell you the remaining content as DLC. A nice use of this that I remember was the Hurricane Pack for Ninja Gaiden back on the original XBox, which they offered for free.

Perhaps except for games that are only meant to be MMO games such as Final Fantasy XIV, I’d like my games to have a solid single player campaign. I just got to try Titan Fall a few weeks ago, and saw that it didn’t have a single player campaign. Though I’ve played online in the past, I just don’t have much time for it now. Also, coordinating with someone that I’d want to play with also makes it that much more impractical.

I played left for dead 2 online and all the others turned on me and killed me. #hatedit](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=hatedit) #notoonlinegaming](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=notoonlinegaming) #GSITSupport](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=GSITSupport)

Re: Console Online Gaming

I never play MMOs so there's that. The only game i;ve been playing online regularly is Battlefield 4, which is starting to sort of annoy as it's an complete buggy mess with the more you pay the more you play idea.
Console gaming is pretty good, just plug and play. Paying for online sucks though, but you get free games with PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live so there's that.

Re: Console Online Gaming

The free with gold games for Xbox I like. I have gotten some pretty good games with it.

Re: Console Online Gaming

do you a ps3 lying around the house? if yes then get PS Plus, the free games are even better.

Re: Console Online Gaming

I dont. Had an old PS2 that I gave away.

Re: Console Online Gaming

What exactly are you paying for in this case? Is it more than just a subscription fee?

I remember the days when it was free to play online. I guess the publisher needs to charge to make money. If the paying to play online is a flat fee, then it wouldn't be so bad. However, when on top of that publishers can charge money to play online, that's where it becomes a pain.

Apart from free games that XBox Live Gold members could get, they also had discounts on stuff. However, with someone who has as much time for gaming as I do, I'm not sure I could really justify it.

Re: Console Online Gaming

On PlayStation 4, I have to pay to play online but the F2P games are exceptions in this case. I get some online storage to save my stuff, and a bunch of free games every month. We also have a PlayStation Vita, increasing it's value quite a lot.

On Xbox One side, you get free games as well but Xbox Live destroys PSN in terms of the network infrastructure and the services offered. Dedicated servers, fast downloads, better system updates, much bigger online storage.

It sucks but kya karein ab, majbori hai.

Re: Console Online Gaming

Sorry, I was asking about Battlefield 4. What exactly are you paying for? Is it a subscription fee for the game or is it more than that?

Re: Console Online Gaming

hein?:konfused: mera matlab paying for PSN and Xbox Live.

On BF4, you can buy premium which gives you priority over other users when joining servers and some other stuff such as xp events and so on.

Re: Console Online Gaming

Oh, right. So does the PS4 work without PSN Plus or do you now need to subscribe to it to play online?

Re: Console Online Gaming

To play online, you need to have a PlayStation Plus Subscription but for some games such as PS Plus, you don't need it.
