I would have to agree with you - in my mind, sleeves would look better with a dress that is more form fitting and less poofy at the bottom. I like the dress that your fiance chose - but I like the dresses that you were liking even better. But I think the main thing is that all of these dresses are similar in style in regards to their cut… they are fitted on top and throughout the body and them flare out (or pouf out). Its a very flattering style. I think a princess style ball gown might be a little over the top - But check out Nilofer Shahid’s Western Gown in her Noor Jehan Josephine Collection of '09. - obviously only one sleeve on the dress and only the upper portion of it. But go to the website and you can get a better idea of what a poufy dress looks like and u can kinda imagine it with sleeves too.
But as I said earlier - I think you are right that sleeves will look better with a more fitted style of dress.
And yes - cover ups are really blah and not the biggest fan of adding sleeves of lace either (especially if there is no other lace found on the dress). Adding actual sleeves made of the same material of the dress will make it look more cohesive and elegant.
My mom is an excellent seamstress mA and sewed my prom dress her self … but the style of the dress was similar to what you like and she obviously sewed the dress so that it had sleeves on it. It looked amazingly elegant and to this day (prom was over a decade ago. lol) people still ask my mom and me from time to time to show them the dress because it came out so beautiful
