Congratulations Pakistan and residents of Kyber Pakhtunkhwa

Suddenly, out of the blue it appears that things are back in order, as a consensus is reached on renaming the NWFP.

So after 60 odd years of living as a geographical oddity, the people of the North West finally have a proper name. And one that was reached with due respect to all parties involved.
So while its well over due, and has yet to be made official, it seems as if Pak is finally moving in the right direction. Relatively speaking…

Re: Congratulations Pakistan and residents of Kyber Pakhtunkhwa

Thats AS LAME as it can be of PML(N). Why not just name is "Pakhtoonkhwa" when its one of the word in the name anyway. Anyways, we should move forward from there ...

Congrats to all people of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa :)

Re: Congratulations Pakistan and residents of Kyber Pakhtunkhwa

Hopefully this will be settled once for all and no more renaming in future. Congrats to people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, I hope everyone accepts it with their hearts :k:

Re: Congratulations Pakistan and residents of Kyber Pakhtunkhwa

congrats :k:

Its a bit weird - why are they not protesting about Khyber which has had little significance for Hazara, Chitral and Kohistan too.

Hyphenated surnames are quite fashionable. KP will soon start a trend Potohar-Punjab, Punjab-Seraikistan, Balochistan-pakhtunkhwa, Sindh-Jinnahpur!

A lot of credit must go to people who only supported Pakhtunkhwa and COMPROMISED! A compromise is a good thing ad it leaves both sides satisfied.

People are out in force to celebrate!

Pakhtuns celebrate renaming of NWFP Updated at: 0718 PST, Thursday, April 01, 2010

PESHAWAR: Dancing to the drumbeats on different roads and squares of the city late Wednesday evening, jubilant young men celebrated the renaming of NWFP as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Spontaneous celebrations broke out all over Peshawar and in every town and city of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Workers and supporters of the ruling ANP led the celebrations as drummers were hurriedly summoned and impromptu scenes of dancing and distribution of sweets were witnessed at scores of places. Many party workers wore the distinctive red caps of the ANP.

The happy youth, most of them students, termed the renaming of the province as big achievement, saying that it was a longstanding demand of the people of the province. The drum beating and dancing began soon after the news about Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa appeared on different TV channels. The celebrations continued late night and some excited people fired in the air to show their happiness.

A group of cheering youth gathered outside The News/Geo TV office at Khyber Super Market on Bara Road to celebrate the occasion. It gradually turned into a traditional dance party and attracted dozens of people.

Irrespective of their party affiliation, many people joined the celebrations. They were happy over the name Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. However, some of them suggested a one-word name like Pakhtunkhwa or Afghania. “We have got our identity and historical name for our province. However, it would have been more better if the name was Pakhtunkhwa or Pakhtunistan,” said Qaisar Hussain, student of local college while enjoying the dance and drum beating.

“We were watching TV channels in our rooms but soon we heard the drum beating. We left our flats and preferred to enjoy this historical moment,” another young man Shah Mehmood told this scribe. He said that he had no affiliation with any political party but like other Pakhtuns he was happy to have a proper name of the province.

Slogans like ‘Long live Pakhtunkhwa’ and ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ mingled in the air amid drum beating. The activists of the Awami National Party also gathered in historic Chowk Yadgar to celebrate the moment. “It is a dream come true for the entire Pakhtun nation,” said a young Pakhtun nationalist.

Reports reaching here from different parts of the province stated that the renaming of the province as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was celebrated till late night. In Charsadda, the hometown of the ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, jubilant workers of Awami National Party (ANP) took to the streets and distributed sweets when the electronic media reported that the committee on Constitutional Reforms had agreed to rename NWFP as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The activists of ANP took out a procession to celebrate renaming of the NWFP as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They danced to the drumbeat and fired in the air in jubilation. In a telephonic conversation with wedia, Begum Nasim Wali, former provincial president of the party, said Abaseen and Khyber were also suitable names for the NWFP but she preferred Pakhtunkhwa as it had also been mentioned by Bacha Khan and Wali Khan.

In Mardan, a procession was brought out on the Bank Road to celebrate the renaming of NWFP as Pakhtunkhwa. Celebrations were also reported from Karak, Bannu, Dir Lower, Buner, Swabi, Nowshera, Kohat and all other districts of the province.

The only problem with having such a long name is that people will soon start calling it KP (cf. NWFP) for convenience sake or just Khyber. Khyber alone or Pakhtunkhwa on its own w'd have been just fine. Thanks to NS we could not even get a simple name change right!

Anyways Khyber Pakhtunkhwa still sounds a million times better than NWFP. Congrats to everyone esp. people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Re: Congratulations Pakistan and residents of Kyber Pakhtunkhwa

Well done!

Now that the kid is named, let's all start working so that we can feed it, clothe it, and make it strong (InshaAllah).

Congrats to all residents of Pakistan.

Khyber-Pakhtonkhwa zindabad

If that makes any difference then should have done before!
however congratulations to Pakistanis!

I am not against it, but need to know what we achieved now?
before it was NWFP, now it is KP, should be UKP (United Khayber Pakhtoonkhuwah)

khair, choti choti khushian bhi aj kay zamanay main nayaab hain :)

any plans for making kala baagh dam now ?

I agree with you joke on this one. If the province had to named acording to language or ethnicity of teh people then why not name it hazara pakhtunkha and if sentiments of minorities of KP were to be ignored then why not just pukhtunkhah.

What a ridiculous and un-natural name. Only pakhtunkhwa or afghania were acceptable.
Khyber is land of afridi tribe, and it is in FATA. why not swat-pakhtunkhwa, kohat-pakhtunkhwa or waziristan-pakhtunkhw?

A big drama has been played with us. The opponents of pakhtuns knew that name is too
that people at the end will use short name khyber .

I agree with you but Takht e Lahore **is very important.
They are always backed by **Boots
and also from few honorable.
Even majority of Punjab is against them but this mafia is beyond our reach.

Oh for GOD's sake, let it go now.
The whole Pakhtunkhawa is celebrating in the streets and people of Hazara are understandably a bit unhappy but why do you see conspiracies behind everything????

Just be happy and celebrate like most people in Pakhtunkhawa.

There you go again.
How the hell will PUNJAB benefit from the word Khyber???? You always come up with "thaka hua" answer like "i am a punjabi as well" but you don't leave a single chance to promote such conspiracies.
Now tell me how Punjab/Punjabis/Punjabi mafia/Establishment (whatever you wanna call it) will benefit by including the word Khyber next to Pakhtunkhawa????

I really doubt we can come out of this ethnic bakwas for at least 100 more years.

Re: Congratulations Pakistan and residents of Kyber Pakhtunkhwa

At last the people of "sarhad" got an identity. Sarhad or NWFP is not a name. Congrats to the people of Pakistan and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.
