Yousuf sets new Test run record
Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf has set a new record for the most Test runs in a calendar year.
Yousuf passed Viv Richards’ record of 1,710 runs when he scored his 47th run on day four of the third Test against West Indies in Karachi.
On the opening day of the match, Yousuf also broke the record for the most hundreds in a year with his eighth century of 2006.
Pakistan had reached 241-2 by lunch, a lead of 285, with Yousuf on 78.
The West Indies pacemen found little assistance off the slow and low wicket of the National Stadium as Mohammad Hafeez and Yousuf added 111 runs after resuming at the overnight 130-2.
Collymore found the edge of Yousuf’s bat on couple of occasions, but due to slow nature of the wicket, the ball did not carry to the slip fielders.
When on 43 Yousuf also surpassed the Pakistan record of most runs in a three-match series, set by former great Zaheer Abbas with 583 made against India in 1978. Daren Ganga dropped Yousuf on 68 when he could not hold on to a diving catch off Ramnaresh Sarwan just before lunch.
